That coin is the perfect example of my collecting style. The date
is nice but the rest of the coin suffers. I hope to up-grade one day,
but even many of these are listed as "Common" 250 or more pieces
collectable, "Scarce" 101-250 pieces collectable, "Very Scarce"
50-100 pieces collectable, they very rarely become available thru
the venues I use. The above figures are per Levinson's book.

 

This Patard is from the Ghent mint. Not the prettiest of
coins, I will look for an upgrade.

 

This Kortling is from the Gottingen mint. One of the
few times when mixed numerals are used, M CCCCLXXX8,
in the date.

 

This Kreuzer was minted in Graz.

 

This Half Schwertgroschen comes from Schneeberg.
Of all the places for damage to the planchet to occur,
it would have to involve the date.

 

This Double Griffon from the Malines mint. I never realized how
rare the coins were that were dated 1486 and 1487. The few that
are obtainable, approximately 8 different coins, very rarely show
up at auctions themselves. The other 20+ coins are very rare,
less than 6 or fewer of each that are collectable.

 

I'll post a few more next week. I feel like I've hijacked

Are you sure that’s not just a crude flan (1488 I-227a Saxony)? It might make you feel less conflicted an otherwise handsome coin.

I have a VERY small number of undated coins of this period but only 1 more dated, then I am out. I am enjoying seeing your pieces. It is striking that the designs of many 16th century coins were already established in the 15th century. Keep up the good work !

 

Before I start posting again, is there anything that I could do
differently to make this more interesting? Let me know.

The "4" in the date is of Medieval style

I tried a couple of times to delete the Smiley Face, no luck.

 

This Half Stuiver was minted in Nijmegen.

This and the preceding piece are the only ones I have with
the date 1486. Many coins that have the date are very rare or
rarely come up for auction.

 

This Stuber was minted in Cleve by Johann II.

This Stuber was minted in Wesel. The letters "W-E-S-A" are in
the empty fields of the cross, dated side.
