If the turkey wouldve been the national symbol, it would probably be illegal to hunt it. As it is with the bald eagle now. I too am glad it isnt ON the great seal of the United States. Besides, we have enough turkeys standing behind it.

Lucky! I was turkey hunting all weekend here for youth season, I had one coming in. He was a decient size, but he started putting, and walked away.

turkeys are kinda fat and ugly, although they taste great. bald eagles on the other hand are skilled hunters and at the top of their food chain.

    imo.... bald eagle > turkey

Franklin was right!! Turkey is better on plate than on a note...Can you imagine eating a note??

LOL...a Turkey note...why soar with Eagles when you can pull the leg of a Turkey!!

I suppose this is my way of trying to be funny...

One must note, a turkey is smart enough not to HAVE to "soar".

I heard that when it rains a turkey will lift its head with its beak wide open and drown. Smart?

Great shots, Ben. Here's one I took a couple years back, about a week before Thanksgiving. There was a flock of about 40 of them in a local park. This guy happened to stroll over to see what I was doing. I think a commem with a Ben Franklin obverse and Wild Turkey reverse would be great.
