Sorry for the blatant favor asking, buuuuuut I have a favor to ask. I have seen some of my really sleuthy (just made up a word) CT pals superimpose images on top of each other to see if the coin is a die match! Pretty cool stuff.
I had recently bought a pretty fun Macedonian shield coin from the Seleukid empire that was a bit more rare than the other types I had seen. I have been looking over other types of the same coin trying to find a match and came across what I think might be a die match on CNGs sold database.
I bet you know where this is going, would someone please share how they superimpose images on top of each other so that I may try that with these 2 coins.
And not to tell, tell, tell without a little show. Here's mine and then the CNG beauty:

    Antiochos III Megas

Seleukid Kingdom. Uncertain (military) mint 60. 223-187 BC. Struck 202-187 BC Bronze Æ 17mm., 4,60g. Macedonian shield with gorgoneion in central boss / ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑNΤΙΟΧΟΥ, elephant walking right, anchor above, monogram of ΠΑ below. very fine SC 1089.3a; HGC 9, 490

And the one I think might match mine:

    Any help here is appreciated.:)

Well the reverse is clearly not a die match :) look between the legs...

Agreed. Sorry, I should have specified. Possible obverse die match.

Look at that line under the chin. It's possible anyway. Good Luck.

Justin Lee I learn by doing

I use Photoshop to overlay the two images and resize/rotate (while maintaining proportions) and constantly adjusting the layer's opacity to see if they align.

Edit: It looks promising... though that CNG image is smaller so came out a little pixelated, plus that coin is a bit dinged up. The circles around the face line up decently, but that face is mushy so didn't align well.

I say no. Look above the head. On one the right side of the symbol is combined, on the other two separate marks.

I think it is an obverse match. It's always difficult to tell when the coin is so curvy. Lighting, angle of the lens to the coin, and other factors can make it difficult to tell. Of course condition can make it tough too.

Here's an animated overlay of a black and transparent version of Ryro's coin atop the other coin, alternating the a lightened but solid version of Ryro's coin and the other coin. Neither photo was very amenable to a "line drawing" so perhaps the combo is better in this case.

(hasty overlay-- I should have tweaked the position a bit more)

WoWiE! A double Thanks Thanks @Justin Lee! I just downloaded photo shop express (hopefully it has the same capability). And I really think between your and @TIF's machina magic, their and my coins dings aside, that is proof positive of a die match!
No hyperbole whatsoever, their coin sold for just over ten time what I got mine for!!!

It's a weird type to be sure. I don't pay that much attention to these, but haven't seen one before I believe.

I still see a very intact right hand swoosh above the head on one, and a clear break on the other. Could strike pressure affect this?

You guys left the back door opened when you mentioned 'teach a man to fish'.

Give a man a fish, and you'll feed him for a day or so.

Teach a man to fish and he'll sit in a boat all day guzzling beer.

Apologies for the 'drive by'....... devil.gif

I don't think so. Though, I think I see what you're talking about. The top of their coin is a mess. I sure don't think that's from the design of the die though. Just like mine. It appears to have accumulated some gunk over the centuries. With everything lining up, except some crud, I certainly am convinced this is a obverese die match.
