I haven't found a dealer in the Houston area that I think I could trust. Those that I have dealt with, major well advertised dealers, seem untrustworthy when I visit them. Coin shows here are mostly a gathering for cliques. A time for buddies to visit.
I value all the comments. I'll try to find a dealer I can trust. Believe me I have had some bad experience. I have taken Morgan and Peace dollars that I got straight from the bank in the 50's and got negative results from local dealers. Thanks.
Right. I will make the rounds with it and report back. I live out in the country about 50 miles from any civilization. So, I don't get in the vicinity of coin shops very often.
I’m in that area somewhat frequently fiancée family is from there. West or east of Houston. She’s west near brenham
Three pages? Who tests coins with ice? Furthermore if you are not an experienced "ice tester" how are you going to know anything about the rate .900 fine silver melts? I have my opinion. Now, will someone go on VAM World first to see if the date and MMK match one of the images. PS The coin is NOT CAST! It is very harshly buffed in one direction.
Thanks. I tried to find VAM for 1890-O last night. No luck. But, I did find them this morning. Will do a search.
With the condition of the coin the best I can do is match the date and mint mark to VAM-6. Some of the other markers are not visible to my eye.
Here's the ice test you should be performing. give me a silver Morgan Dollar, and I'll give you something ice like that tests your economic value of coinage
The VAM-6 denticals are not in the same place under the "1." VAM-2 has a mintmark tipped right but no image. Nevertheless, I'll bet the coin is genuine.
Yes. I had a difficult time with VAM because of the lack of clear detail. I am certain that the coin is genuine. Thanks for all the help here.
Cheech9712, posted: "Not the real deal. Sorry." Sorry, this post is NOT a "real deal" either. Please let all of us know why you believe the OP's coin is a fake. Thanks.
My wife and daughter owned several beauty shops before they retired. One of them was in Brenham. We live about 45 miles South of Brenham near I 10.
