I went to the post office this morning to send my grand son is birthday gift. It cost me $14.98 to send the package. I think to my self geesh, thats alot to spend, But whatever hand the post women a $20.00 she hands me back a $5.00 star note and 2 pennys. I notice the star right away, and think hey thats cool so I drop the pennys in my pocket without thinking to look at them. As im focused on not folding the Five dollar bill again. Walk out to my truck, get in slide the Five in a safe place and drive home. Now I have over the years gotten into a habbit of walking in the door and heading straight over to a large 5 GL jug I have for pocket change. So I reach in my pocket as I remeber to go back out to my truck and grab that Five so I take out the two pennys place them on the table with out looking. Turn around head out and grab the Five. Come back in and grab a sleave for it. I was sitting here thinking should I even bother scanning it and showing it to you fellas of CT. I think Na screw not really anything really worth showing off. So a few minutes go by and I'm watching TV with the cat. I hear my wife say. What are you doing with these pennys! From across the house. ( Opps forgot ) I was just gonna say drop them in the jug. But instead got up and thought whatever go take a look at them before tossing them in the mix and well. Like I said this will never happen to me again. Look for your selfs. Theres a very weak D that you can hardly see with out a loop. I am flabbergasted.
Oldman, Way to go! Those are nice finds and you are right, it probably will never happen again but who knows it just might! Frank
What would you grade it is my next question, lol I thinking VF. But as I understan it 1922 cents had some Die issues. Im not sure if this is a no D or a Weak D. Im leaning Weak D. Becasue you can sorta see a D where it would be. But I saw a PCGS 1922 no D that looked like that A few minutes ago while looking around online. I bet ya AZ Jack will know.
Nice find!! I wish I would have that kind of luck with circulation finds. I would grade it VF as well. Nice looking cent. I cant see any trace of a D just looking at your picture.
Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan, that has to be the find of the year! I'll say a nice VF grade, nice find! :thumb: RLM or Jack should be here soon, lol. Nice find! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: Phoenix
From everything I've read about these 1922 cent vatieties I'd say your cent is from die pair #3 - Second 2 in date is weaker than the first 2 - "Trust" is weak but sharper than "In God We". -"L" in LIBERTY butts up against the rim -The reverse is rotated slightly counterclockwise. - Reverse is weak-lower left part of O in ONE begins to spread into the field as the die deteriorates, although yours doesnt. Reverse looks wavy - Mintmark ranges from weak to no D I may be wrong, I was wrong once before.
No, I don't think your wrong this time !! WOW, that is quite a find and the best "circulation" grab story I have heard in a loooong time !! CONGRATS !!
It looks like die #3 to me also. I think it had a good shot for XF - if it just were not for that scratch on Lincoln. As it is , it might net as a fine or low VF.
Wow! Great find! Thanks for keeping the dream alive that anyone can get the rare ones while going about your everyday business!
Very cool find there. I agree, die 3 and vf-maybe even ef depending. Thats waht makes this hobby fun! The star note is cool too but thats even cooler!
So, help me here. I don't know much about Lincolns, but I am noticing a 1922 on numismedia price guides that show $1,630.00 in VF!! Is this correct??!!! If so....dang!!!! I will start watching my pocket change more carefully!!!! I don't see a D at all. But...what do I know? That is really cool!:hail:
Yeah I agree. I'm thinking that the mark on lincolns head and in the feild is from being rolled up? You know what I mean?
carl, Oldman stated when starting this Thread, that the coin has a very...very weak "D"! Therefore, look up the pricing for the 1922-D "Weak D Variety" Cent. Frank
