searched through 15 rolls I got from the bank and 95% of them were 1972's 3's 4's. I did get 1 1969. My first ever silver in about $600 worth of halfs. Oh well the bank has $350 more I guess i will try my luck monday.

I guess the guy that searches the rolls you have searched will hate '70s halves even more than you.

I've had the same experience. I've never found a silver or 40% silver half in rolls and the rolls are almost impossible to get anyway. With the same amount of time, I'd get a lot more silver by working a few extra hours and just buying silver bullion.

I guess what I don't get is how people EXPECT to find silver in a roll of halves.

WHERE, WHERE did that come from?

I am one of those guys who buys ONE roll of halves when I happen to go to the bank.

I have never understood the posts of people who buy a box of haves and complain when they only find 4 '64's and a few of the 40% coins.

Jeez. You can turn them all back in and you've lost NOTHING.

The fact is, people DO find them, especially the 40% ones because most people don't realize there ARE 40% silver halves. However, it does take time, so it's really not cost-free unless you have nothing else to do with your time.

I had the same reaction about people with metal detectors. Do they really expect to find Rolex watches and rare coins? They don't very often, but occasionally they do.

Well as you can tell from my signature my first half experience was a great one, so after about 4 more boxes and 1-1969 40%, I think it time to switches to quarters. At least with quarters you dont get that funny look when you ask for a box....lol

Just looked through $500 worth of halves. Got one beat up 1966. That's all for finding silver. But i have a few sets going and did find several D minted coins I need. Found one 1998P. That is the one and only 1998 I ever found. The big find this time was a 1995 two headed coin with the kennedy head on both sides.
One side is a P mintmark and the other has the D mintmark! You can see the seam where they are put together.
Also got three 2005D coins and a 2000D.
So if you collect Kennedys and are building sets; it's not about the silver anymore.
A lot of the bank employees are wise to silver half dollars now and pick them out to take home.
But a couple weeks ago I got 3 rolls at a different bank. Out of 3 rolls I got a nice 1964, two 1967 and three 1968-d coins.

yeah i almost finished my set which is what I wanted to do. but everyone would like to find that silver. Im just basically sick of seeing the same dates. however, it seems
    impossible not too.

I have searched on occasion and did find silver. Actually quite a few 40% and even a few Franklins.

My dealer bought a bag of $500 one day for the hell of it and I sorted them for him. Found a few Walkers and a Barber!

Who knows why people cash them in but they do. Just being in the right place at the right time helps a lot.

When you search quarters you'll get frustrated with all the 1965's and 1966's you find, but no silver :(
    I do anyway.

    i hate....

never give up! you can never tell what is out there and how it got there. for example, how about someone getting their collection stolen and ending up (perish the thought) in circulation! or someone turning in rolls of, what they think is, common change that perhaps they had for years and years and decided to swap it out for folding money! you just never know! so don't get frustrated!
