Cost of Grading

Despite your own expertise in trolling, Baseball was having a conversation with Ana. Seattlite86 interjected himself in their discussion, not to challenge or make a point, but simply to call Baseball a troll.

Nobody insulted anybody in this thread, and the argument had barely even started before Seattlite86 interjected, so stop crying about other people being trolls. Just because you can’t form logical well thought out posts to challenge either Baseball or myself doesn’t give you the right to call either of us trolls.

Now, what the heck is the “racist” comment about?

This is the only time I will waste on this from them. He’s referring to the racist acronym he used in the past that I called him out on. The thread went downhill quickly as it usually does as you have seen with the games some here choose to play. For the most part I just ignore a few posters for good reason and as you have seen and called them out before for just trying to troll/bait/aggravate or whatever word wants to me used for their posts towards me.

It doesn’t really bother me as they are nothing to me but as I have said many times it would be nice to be able to have actual discussions based on facts but if it comes from me a few people feel the need to go on the offensive immediately.

I am blunt a lot of the time because of the incessant trolling by some who even when I do not engage and ignore just keep going on and on.

Kurt and I couldn’t have been further apart on certain issues yet we could always have legit discussions or know when to let it go. It says a lot about a few that they seem to just want to follow my posts with nonsense

Actually baseball went and started an argument with intention to dispel anything that Ana Silverbell said. Some "Hooked on a Feeling" that he/she should be loved for what they had to sayy. As if what I say should be taken as gospel.

Get over yourselves, and move on.

  5. one way to get coins graded at an inexpensive price I monitor ICG site sometimes they run specials where you can get $ 10 grading plus postage works out to about $ 12 per coin in lots of 20 works for me I think they are just as critical as the other top 3 graders

I'll probably get flamed for this again, but the market dictates pricing. There is a very clear price structure where in many cases using a low tier TPG will lose you more on resale value than spending more for a first tier TPG would, this is especially true on moderns.

Are there instances where a low tier TPG can make sense like generic morgans absolutely, but there are also many areas where you will lose more in the sale price than you saved in grading fees.

He challenged an assertion made by another member, which is his right (see above). If you or anyone else disagrees with his point, you have every right to challenge him, but to dismiss entirely by calling him a troll is just wrong. For example, johnmilton made an excellent post soon after that basically destroyed Baseball’s point and he did it without even mentioning or quoting Baseball. For the record, I disagree with baseball, there absolutely is an element of gambling inherent in the grading process, and it’s born from subjectivity.

Furthermore, you don’t know what his intentions were. You’ve assigned his intentions as “to dispel anything that Ana Silverbell said” despite the fact that Baseball clearly quoted only one sentence out of Ana Silverbell’s original post. And since you like assigning intentions, I will do it to you and say the reason for your perception of evil intentions on Baseball’s part lies solely in the fact that you consider him a troll and not worthy of the respect that every member of this forum should be provided.

I’m not sure gambling is the right word, but completely agree there is a subjectivity aspect. I guess the longer less blunt response would have been that if you’re off by grades consistently more than +/-1 it’s time to really look at your own grading.

I don’t agree bill proved a different point than I was saying but can certainly understand that perspective, there’s a few series I would be throwing gum at the wall and seeing what sticks. There’s also others where I rarely get a surprise. If anything I would argue the dealers getting a surprise is generally one outside their best series. Not specifically to bill at all but also just dealing doesn’t mean one can grade.

All that said though I don’t think I’ve ever tried to claim grading is a hard science and I do enjoy discussing it

Hey man, like I thought you were a troll. What's with this well thought out logical response you just posted?

I completely agree. There are some benefits to ICG and ANACS but using them as a cheap alternative to PCGS and NGC is rarely going to get you the same return.
It's always nice to get these they are rare and far between. The usual is an inflamed response. Maybe we are seeing a new Baseball. Or maybe not. There is no doubt we have some clashes when it comes to the TPG's

I'm a recent, rather long-in-the-tooth convert to buying raw coins. I have the ANA's "Fundamentals of Grading U.S. Coins" to thank for this latter-day epiphany. As a collector, the ability to apply an educated eye to a raw coin opportunity personalizes the acqusition and adds infinitely more satisfaction and cost saving to the overall collection. Do I still buy TPG specimens? Sure, but now I do so knowing that there can be considerable variance in eye appeal and quality within a given grade. So ANA, I tip my hat for this reboot of my enthusiasm for the hobby! (Cited from: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/cost-of-grading.340190/page-2)

I must be blunt. I like to buy regular cents already in the slab for like $12-$16 on Ebay. I must be retarded. I did not know that about myself. I don't know how I am going to break the news to my wife.
