Personally I'd like to see a clear closeup of this photo. It shows another line (for lack of a better word) running from the rim at 2 o'clock to the point in question. This is the only photo that I can see this.
Retained Cud.. Maybe.. That would be a really huge CUD if that part of the Die totally broke off. Unless the Mint caught the problem in time.
I'm beginning to think it's the path of a recent hurricane. In some photos it looks cut into the coins surface and in other photos it looks raised.
It appeared to me that the metal was bulging out at the 12 o'clock area. That's why I thought die crack. Didn't seem like damage. Has Fred seen this coin and offered an opinion?
If you look at both the rims they show displaced metal on both sides. I could change my mind with an in hand inspection but I am sure that it us PMD.
Thanks. I can actually do a few things around the house since I've healed some. I just pace myself and stop if I start to hurt. Don't get old, it's a difficult path.
In the magnified pics, the upper portion of the raised defect looks very similar to the mast of the boat. It is also perfectly parallel to the mast.
That surely could be what I think I'm seeing - just had to tell. @Tifflynmcc are you using a filter for these pics? The color & tone might be hiding important details..
