What the heck is this mess that I just purchased? Counter strike?
Not a typical clash, or vise job, as the lettering is not reversed.
Thoughts on identification of errors will be appreciated.

Sorry for the bad pics. What you see, other than the blue color, is accurate/genuine.

You should be concerned with identification first.. Then the value.

I am. Just worded it wrong, and even thought about that after I posted, but didn’t change due to multitasking. Could be worthless for all I care. I just think it’s cool as an oddity. Value would be an added bonus.

    Your thoughts?

I find it interesting and confusing at the same time. I see some of the reverse image struck on the obverse but when I look at the reverse it looks like it was double struck in collar.
    I like it.

I sure would like to study that coin In Hand.
Looks to be struck, flipped over & rotated 180° and restruck.
    Definitely not a common one.

I'm concerned that it might be damaged. It looks like a vise job. If you take a dime and flip it upside down so the top Dime has the date at the top of the coin and place the reverse on top of the obverse Dime under it you will get the reverse laurel leaves on the right side in the correct position on the obverse of the Dime under it.

This also would create the upside down B just above Roosevelts ear. The reverse is more difficult to understand. I'm thinking if you protected the one Dime and placed another dime on top of it matching the UN in UNUM perfectly it would create the doubling. Hard to explain but I used my imagination and 2 dimes and I can get this affect.

Thoughts? Please don't crucify me, I'm just trying to offer a reasonable explanation but I may be off my rocker.

Who says that both can’t be true? Lol

Vise job doesn’t explain ‘America’ under (over?) ‘Liberty’.

I do not believe this coin is any kind of a vice job at all.
all the extra design elements are in relief and not incused.

I would be very interested in knowing how this happened at the Mint. Is it possible that the obverse was struck and the coin was rotated in a manner that caused the reverse to be struck over top of the obverse? Of course there needs to an explanation as to how the doubling occurred on UNUM. A number of the letters on the reverse have been chewed up or damaged in this process as well.

Struck with a fake die on the obverse. The incomplete second strike and the soft, blended overlap between primary (genuine) and secondary (fake) design elements is characteristic of such crude counterfeit strikes. The warped reverse is another red flag.

Sounds like someone went to a lot of trouble for this. Are there any known examples of this? I would think that ‘they’ would have produced many, to make it worthwhile.

I've seen similar counterfeit second strikes in all denominations from cent to dollar.
