I treat these as novelties and not as coins for general circulation. I don't intend to consider them as necessary to have a complete set of quarters. But, I will watch for them and hold them if I find one. I will not pay a premium for a US Mint novelty.
If you’re lucky, I’ll still be on coin probation. I was in you’re neck of the woods for 9 months before moving here, I bet you didn’t even notice
Here again "money and connections" which seems to be the untold story of the US mint's hairbrained scheme to only release "W" quarters to federal reserve banks. Instead of attracting "new" collectors, the only thing this stunt is doing is making money on the secondary market for the few who have found the "W" quarters. Good luck on finding those quarters in change at stores. The "W" quarters are either being hoarded by the finders or selling them at ridiculous prices on the secondary market. The US mint with another misinformed idea on how to attract new collectors. The US mint could have included a "W" quarter in the rocket ship collection, but then again I wonder how many "new" collectors decided to purchase the rocket ship offering. Have you seen the ridiculous prices being charged on the secondary market for a $9.95 item? Supposedly the US mint is going to be issuing a new set of rocket ship packets. Stay tuned!
My CRHing has been crushed so much lately. I'm happy if I can get ANY haves and lucky to go through a couple hundred dollars a week.
I was in the same boat trying to randomly pick up MWRs, CWRs, bags off the machines, loose teller tray and always being told "I don't have any". I finally persisted in getting several branches to order boxes of halves for me after bribing with cookies, ha ha. I have 5-6 boxes per week coming in regularly such that now, I almost can't handle the volume of coin. Thus my change in method (edge checking). Even so, I feel your pain as the easy silver pops up only once in awhile, but the dumping never lets up . I did find a lone 40%er edge checking a box yesterday and believe it or not, another 1974-D DDO. It was next to a shiny edge NIFC and I saw the date and looked at it with a magnifier. The wife is funny. On one hand she'd like me to slow down on the CRH a bit, on the other hand she warned me my edge checking strategy will cause me to miss some goodies, lol. She's a peach and pretty understanding about my hobbies. She does leave the room when I practice my new hobby, learning the banjo.
For circulation issues, yes just the quarter. 2 million each of all 5 designs this year. For other issues, no. You can get a W cent from the Mint if you order a proof set, another for a silver proof set and a third W cent, all different, with the purchase of an uncirculated set.
