Why do so many auction descriptions include the weight but omit the diameter?

    This is a good method to check the OD (outer diameter) of a coin if you don't have a vernier caliper ;).

    I'm paranoid about metal on metal. So I use these. Is it as precise as a digital caliper? Probably not, but it's close enough...and a lot safer on the coin.

    While in hand it doesn´t make much difference if a Sestertius weights 20 or 30 gr, one with a 37 mm flan certainly plays in another league than one with just 27...
