I am opining that this is an XF and the other is strong VF.

AU53. Whats that little thing there around 3 oclock on the obverse rim. Looks like a copper shaving?

That coin could be a 53, but the luster (picture?) just is not there. I would say 50

XF 45. It could be the strike and I'm not an expert so I can't be sure.

I'm having trouble seeing the difference between xf45 and au50. Any tell-tale signs to look for?

    I'd go with AU.

Having just looked at the other one which I also pegged at XF45 the biggest difference to me is the obverse.

Hair, ear and tie detail aren't as strong.
Wheat lines not quite as sharp either.

The hair and the wheat grains are more detailed on a Au coin.

look in the fields where the color changes as it nears letters and devices, just a tad of change, not much wear or discoloration shows, and on well struck coins, the hair full at the temple and the wheat kernals should be crisp
