How much longer will the mint use the current silver eagle design until they redesign them? When do you think the mint will redesign or retire the silver eagle?

Since it is a bullion coin and not intended for circulation, the Mint doesn't have to change the design. Why should they retire this "cash cow"?

Interesting link green18, but I highly doubt a change will be made. ;) The US Mint is making a ton of money off the silver eagle design so I doubt a new design will replace the ASE design. The mint may add to the design as mentioned in the last line from that link below. Are we gonna get serial numbers on our coins? Who knows?! :D

More than likely something akin to the Canadian Maple Leafs........

If a change does happen I really hope it isn't something recycled again, we've had enough recycled designs

Sorry we've had enough vintage designs come back :p

Vintage designs on a large 'canvas' would be most welcome to an old sod like me. The stuff I picked out of the change as a kid was well worn and (sometimes) dateless. To see them in a form that I, or any collector, could afford would be fantastic. The mint did it with gold a few short years ago........I couldn't afford/justify the expense.

To me bringing back the vintage designs cheapens the original. The ASE basically ruined Walkers for me. I also just find it hard to believe that there is no one in this country capable of making a beautiful new design, and if they aren't here then there has to be someone in the world given the beautiful coins many world mints have done

On the contrary (to me) it encourages original design. But so much 'fun' is made of original design, as evidenced by the 'America the Beautiful' quarters.........

Many many of those I felt there were better rejected designs than what was chosen. But the terrible design choices of the committee is a whole separate issue

Leave the ASE and AGE designs alone. All the Mint could come up with would be some cartoonish replacement.

If you’re bored by the ASE, enjoy this one...

I would love to see some designs from the early 1800’s, from gold coin included, maybe even a flying eagle reverse from the 1857 cents. I despise the eagle on the current silver eagles. I want more realistic art.

I think a new design would actually increase sales at first. If it’s received well then it would probably bring more people into the hobby as they might continue to buy every year after starting with the new design. Just make sure it’s REALLY good and not just a replacement. I’m extremely bored with the design. Would love something new to be honest.
