I know you are not supposed to clean coins. But have also been told you can send them to a professional coin cleaning service. My question is, if you send a coin to be cleaned professionally and then send it to a grading company such as PCGS would they list it as being cleaned?

The grading companies have conservation services. The final outcome is what matters. A details grade can happen after conservation, but they do what they can to pick good candidates and methods where most will straight grade

Depends on whether or not the coin looks cleaned..........

Ken it depends on several factors not only sight but also the sniffer detecting any substance on the coin .

Conservation and cleaning are not synonyms.

I know, but how many times is the 'sniffer' employed?

Really not sure what he was trying to say. The sniffer is a PCGS thing that may or may not be still in use since they have an AI program now to help with fakes.

Was just uneducated for someone to imply that's used across the board by all TPGs

So if a TPG cleans it ...it's conservation....if you do it's detailed. :stop:

As strange as it may seem, that’s probably an accurate statement.

Well said. They do a great job of helping coins that can be helped. I'll bet they turn down many coins that are past any chance of conservation.

They certainly try to despite the fake rumors some are trying to push in this thread.

Are you saying he's intentionally supplying misinformation such as "And we both know why....bling bling show me the money and we can give you a pass."

It's a fact the TPGs don't details a properly conserved coin just because someone else did it, just as it is a fact the sniffer was a PCGS thing where there may or may not have been something similar at one of the other TPGs but it wasn't called a sniffer, and it is also a fact that just because the TPG does conservation does not mean they won't details it.

I would hope someone wouldn't intentionally give off bad information like that
