That a steal...the 51 o. 860,000 mintage, the57 o. 1,380,000 in vf 20 these two would be worth 40/45 $ each.... the jump to xf 45 puts both coins at $125. - $150. Each ! Nice score!
The 1851 o is interesting as there are no varieties for this date and mm noted. However Eduard perhasp you can give us a in hand details on what's going on with the date. Looks like a repunch or chips.
Hi Paddy, thank you for your comments. I will take a closer look at it when I am back home in some weeks. In the meantime here is a close-up picture. It could be debris, or maybe chips as you say.
$48 The reverse print is a bummer but the color and luster makes up for it.... hoping True Views can do it justice.
I bought two of these in the past few days; one of them is NOT certified but it arrived encapsulated in the US mint packaging. The other one as shown. Interestingly enough, the two were within $5 of each other. Pondering whether I should pay to have the other one certified or not?
I got this cleaned 1881 in a lot of five IHCs for $40.00 along with two 1882s and two 1883s three of which a shoe ins for XF
Curious about syntax, @Hoky77. Is it that YOU participated in the cleaning of this IHC, or, when this coin arrived, did you recognize that you had received a cleaned coin? Very nice samples, BTW.
I received the cent in that condition and there was no mention of it in the sellers description. The photo provided in the Buy it Now auction just showed the color to be a bit lighter than normal and didn't show any of the toning. The other coins were untouched original condition with two being solid AUs and the least coin was a VF. I just checked to see if the photos were still available. This was a international auction and the seller used a listing service that apparently deletes the photos soon after closing. Overall the group was severely under priced and I find this specimen to be quite attractive.
I bought this for $14.50 from these pictures. I immediately recognized the obverse die, which was used on S-219 (3 Errors Reverse), S-220, NC-2, and NC-5. I could see 2 stems, so it was not S-219. I did not see the die breaks characteristic of S-220, so I gambled that it could be an early die state NC-2 or NC-5. I got it in hand, and I saw what looked like a die break over U in UNITED and the strike weakness over ONE CENT uncharacteristic of S-220. My first thought was “OH CRAP! A NEW VARIETY!!” Then I did an overlay of S-220 just to be sure, and saw that it was a perfect match. Oh well. Maybe @Marshall will prove me wrong?
I’m super stoked!!! I dropped my wife and daughter off to have their hair done, and decided to check out the half-price bookstore. I picked up all four of these for $35 including tax, that’s not only a great buy, but a great investment in my collection.
I have the coin in hand, and it does appear to be genuine. Assuming what is seen in the original pics is accurate, what are your thoughts, and what do I do with it, lol. I will try to post better pics tomorrow, but no promises on the quality of my pics.
