I just tried to scan some U.S. Bill's and I kept getting an error notice. Are the newer bill's made to eliminate scanning due to forgeries ????
Oh yes..some notes as the $50 and 100's are not scanable on certain software formats!! Some newer scanners are really sharp at producing images and the software can be really really nice in reproduction and Ink colors. Photoshop CS and above will not let you do it.. Try MS Picture Manager...Photoshop Elements will let you but you need to save it in Photo Shop format and then convert it to jpeg and then edit it with Photoshop CS RickieB
Hi ! RickieB. Sounds like you know what you are talking about. These were $ 50.00's and they would not scan. However, I solved my immediate problem by taking digital photo's and up-loading (posted in the Paper Money forum. How do you scan from MS Picture Manager ?
By doing just waht you did....some scanners will not let you scan the notes. By taking images and processing with PS Elements, MS Picture Manager or other packages you can do what you need to do. Just make sure you make the image smaller than the original size!! That can get you into trouble if you print top exact size!!! Many software packages will let you adjust the images..Paint,freeware, and a huge host of photo packages!! RickieB
ANY of the newer colorchrome or whatever they are colled, like the new 20's from 2004 i think it was .. and the newer 10's as well .. they all have a formation of symbols called the EURion. gogole it.. there is A WHOLE LOT of info about it. on the new 10's and 20's the EURion symbol is made up in the yellow 10's and 20's floating around the field. it is VERY UPSETING too, becuase i cant scan my newer notes.
Yes, this new anti-counterfeiting effort of infiltrating the scanner manufacturers is going to stop the counterfeiters in Colombia and Korea who still use better technology to produce near perfect counterfeits.
you forgot the sarcasm smiley! all they are doing by doing what they are doing is stopping hobbyists from doing what they do. like you said, the folks who do counterfeit, use far more advanced tools then a $1-200 scanner from wally-mart! it 'MAY' stop some high school moron from scanning a $20, and trying to pass it at the local mickey-d's. but if is really that dumb, he deserves a visit to the local secret service office. Darwins theory at its best!
Mojavedave, Interesting subject. I teach architecture and AutoCAD in a high school of technology. The class next to me is Graphics and Electronic Media. The teacher says they have a copier that sends an automatic email to the feds if anyone tries to copy any currency. I don't think the students know about the auto email. Daggarjon, Interesting that you would bring this subject up. It just so happens that a few years ago, I had such a student. He was driving to our school for his afternoon class, (we are a magnet school that accepts student from all the high schools in the county) when they decided to stop at McDonalds. Also, it just happens that his father was a diplomat. He stayed in the car. His friend tried to pass a xerox copy of a $20. When his friend comes running out of McDonalds and jumps in the car and says "hurry, let's go!” there is an employee following him and writing down his tag number. When the student arrives at school, he tells the class what happened. I tell him to call his father now because the FBI or CIA will be at his door that night and his father would like to hear it from him instead of the FBI or CIA when his father opens the door. He did call his father. Yes, the feds showed up at his door that evening and questioned him about this incident. He did not get in any trouble but his friend was in some hot water. Don't know how it ended up for the other student. But his name was JON. Could that be you Jon? LOL :kewl: Jack
I used to work for a graffics repro company and are copiers would send a email to the fed automaticly if you scanned anything over a Dollar. I know because I scanned a 100 dollar bill once for a goof project where I put my grand son's face in place of Bens and the police came to my building with in 15 minutes. I had to show them what I was doing. Thankfully I knew the Officers that showed up and I never did that again. Needless to say, I made sure I unplugged the LAN cable from the copier. Edit to add this. Also the copy i made was not green toned, I used Baby blue.
thats funny!! I have my Architecture degree (from a little school called Lawrence Tech here in Southfield Michigan) I use ADT all day every day..... ok, so maybe its just funny to me lol
Well, sounds like you guys are getting away from the subject of "Money Hobby". I only wanted to scan the bills to show what I had, not to run a counterfitting ring. So the method worked. I took digital pictures and posted them and some of you were kind enough to let me know that these were nice bills, but not star notes like I thought.
The software that detects currency in scanners is supposed to direct the user to www.rulesforuse.org. Check it out. A few years ago we had a Secret Service Agent do a presentation at the Midwest Chapter of the IBNS on conterfeiting. He said they spend more time chasing high school kids with copiers and scanners than any other counterfeiters. He was referring to his regional office not the SS in general.
some notes i scan will direct me to that website. It is an awsome site!!! I have used to to contact alot of world banks for permission to use scans of their currency. Some have certain rules i must follow (hint - see my canada page lol) but they are nice enogh to give permission so i can jump through a few hoops to get there. as for the current issue, i have found a few methods of getting around the whole EURion symbol. I have notes on ym site that have that symbol, and i was able to get them scanned. I have all my notes watermarked, so using my images in couterfeiting would be very hard.
