FYI I just went to SixBid, they have redesigned the site and now they have an excellent search tool for previous auctions. They call it SixBid archive. It allows you to search coin results from previous auctions. https://www.sixbid.com/en/ I am sure the redesign is because of the recent hack problems they had.
In the archive tool, the auto complete feature in the search field works really well and is very handy! In ACSearch, if I misspelled a word I'd just get no results.
Initially I had no luck but I worked on it some more. It did find one unrecorded provenance on one coin but missed two others on another. I am not sure how the system works so it is good up to a point.
Im having trouble using the new site on android. Some errors and unable to search in auctions. Function added sounds really good, guess i will have to use the laptop for now.
On my Android phone, the "new and improved" SixBid is a massive step-down in terms of auction functionality, user interface, and ease of use over the old site. I was a frequent bidder on Sixbid before the data breach. If the data breach didn't drive me away, this "new and improved" website certainly will. A few of the irritating issues using my Android phone: 1. Site defaults to German language every time I open it, and I'm forced to choose English. 2. Very few auctions are visible at one time, forcing me to click "show more" over and over and over again. 3. When viewing auction lots, I cannot find a category sort option. So, in order to find any Roman Republican coins in a sale, I must scroll through all the Greek and Greek Imperial. If the category feature still exists for mobile users, it's annoyingly well-hidden. 4. Functions of the universal symbol buttons are not always clear. What bugs you about the new Sixbid?
Everything you've stated and more. I'm a big supporter of change and don't mind the disruption when websites release redesigns/etc. but every facet of the new Sixbid interface is awful and a major regression in terms of usability and performance.
I have just about quit using Sixbid. It is much easier using NumisBids or biddr. My problems have all been the same as those listed above. It's also a real pain when I click on a coin I am tracking to check its status and then want to go back to the previous page. I am always sent back to page one where I have to scroll around to find where I left off on my original search. I can do without the hassle of using Sixbid.
In fairness to SixBid, I'll point-out that there IS a category selection option in the "desktop" version of the website. The trouble is, I use Sixbid on my Android phone 95% of the time. Category selection is really a critically-missing component of the mobile platform.
I agree the search has issues on a phone. My Samsung can switch to desktop from the browser settings, after which it works much better.
Thanks for that tip, David! I had no idea I could switch to desktop view. Indeed, that resolves several of my issues.
