I have a 1971 D Penny in very good condition considering it's been in circulation, but it's missing the "AT" in "STATES" clearly. What is this penny worth? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
A photo would help, but I'm guessing that it is the result of a grease-filled die. These are very common and not worth much. Chris
That is a common area of weakness in early memorial cents. It's caused by metal flow into the obverse design. One of the reasons they eventually went with a shallower relief for Lincoln's bust.
Thanks for the information I'll try to take a good enough picture and post it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I couldn't get a close enough picture, but if there's no indent ion where those letters are missing it's still considered grease filled die? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
yes struck thru grease is what error folks calls this . the two letters of the word states was filled in on the die that struck this coin.
