Went to the Baltimore Whitman show today and I gotta say, I was less than impressed. Perhaps it is because it is the holiday weekend, but more than half the dealers were already gone. I have never seen it that empty before. There wasn't much to my liking anywhere but I did manage to find a few new ancients to come home with me and I did get to meet fellow CTer @armysgti

Here they are in chronological order:

    Sicily, Akragas
    AE Trias
    425-406 BC
Obverse: AKΡA, eagle, with head lowered, standing right on hare
Reverse: Crab, crayfish left below; three dots below crab
    2.jpg

    Severus Alexander
    Denarius
Obverse: IMP C M AVR SEV ALEXAND AVG, laureate, draped bust right
Reverse: ANNONA AVG, Annona standing left with corn-ears and cornucopiae, modius at foot
    Severus Alexandar Denarius.jpg

    Trajan Decius
    AR Antoninianus
    Rome mint
    249-250 AD
Obverse: IMP C M Q TRAIANVS DECIVS AVG, radiate bust right, draped & cuirassed Reverse: ADVENTVS AVG, Decius on horse riding left, with left hand raised in salute & scepter in other arm
    Trajan Decius Antoninianus.jpg

    Tacitus
    AE Antoninianus
Obverse: IMP C M CL TACITVS AVG, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right
Revers: SALVS PVBLI, Salus standing right, feeding serpent in arms
    Mintmark T
    Tacitus Antoninianus.jpg

    Constans II
    641-668 AD
    AE Follis
Obverse: EN TVTO NIKA, Constans, beardless, crowned and wearing chlamys, standing facing, holding long cross and cross on globe
Reverse: large m (lower case), ANA to left, nothing, cross or star above, NEOS to right, officina letter and I, II or IIII below
(This one I am not 100% on since Byzantine coins are particularly hard for me to ID...I only have a couple so that is probably why)

Shame it isnt what you had hoped but you still got some nice coins. Love the crab & the Romans have some nice original toning to them. Just the way I like them.

The crab is my favorite of the bunch! It was more than I normally like to pay for a coin at $40, but I thought it was just too cool to pass up.

That's a good price for it, especially for the nice condition it's in.

I skipped the show because someone told me a couple dealers I like were not going to be there. You did well IMO. I would have skipped the Byzantine but like the rest. The crab is good for the price (again IMO). Right now I am more interested in getting rid of low end coins than adding more and I spent too much at Richmond last month. The summer show is often weaker. I don't know if I will be doing Baltimore ever again or not. I used to live for that show but like everything else, it is getting pricey for my level amateur.

I would appreciate a Private Conversation with details. Did FFjr go with you?

I will send you a message in a few. I am currently making dinner and listening to a History of Rome talking about Julian the Apostate :)
FFjr didn’t go. He came down with a double ear infection and a ruptured ear drum Thursday night. Needless to say, he is a but under the weather. He was looking forward to going but this morning he said he would rather lay on the couch.

Sorry about FFJr and his ear infections! Those things HURT!

Really nice additions to your collection! Great toning on those Romans! I like the Trajan Decius. Popular reverse type of his.

    Thanks :)
I suffered from 1 or 2 ear infections every year and it was miserable and still get them occasionally. I totally feel for him. He is happy that he gets the bubblegum flavored medicine though :) Silver linings.
I really like the Trajan Decius also. I tried to get coins of Emperors that I didn't have yet. I'm glad he was one of them :)

Nice additions. My favorite is the Arkagas also but I like the Trajan Decius as well.

Hey FF, were you able to sell any of your 2019 W quarters and, if so, for how much?:watching:

I traded 2 for 2 Lowells. There was only one guy I could find selling them. He was selling for $35. He wanted to buy the other 3 I had but when I told him I wanted $25/30 for them, figuring profit for me and some for him, he got really rude and told me the most he would pay was $15 per coin. I told him to have a nice day.

I'm sorry the show wasn't well-populated with dealers but you picked up some respectable coins. The Akragas and the Tacitus are my favorites.

It is probably a good thing that there weren't too many dealers. I was in the mood for a small gold coin but there weren't any to be had. I'm sure my wife appreciates the fact that I didn't go and spend all the money I had :)

    A nice haul of coins!

Getting a nice Greek for that price is very good.

Congrats on the cool coins FF. The Trajan Decius and Tacitus coins are my favorite. I agree, the summer show is a bit lacking, especially on Saturday. It always surprises me that it clears out on that day. I had wanted to go see Andy Singer, as he is one of my favorite dealers, but just couldn't make it this time. Hopefully the fall/winter show will be better.

I'm sorry to hear about FFjr having an ear infection. My oldest had one and she was miserable. What made it worse is that she hated they bubble gum flavored medication.

Well, let me know. If not, enjoy New England. I haven't been up that way in a few years. My wife's family is starting to let it be known that it has been too long since we've visited...
