I actually like the Peace dollars more than Morgans... I think they're cooler the fact that they're more affordable helps too
I just love the big cartwheel size silver coins. Mexican Libertad's, Canadian Maple Leaf's, ASE's, Peace dollar's. Dont appreciate the Bland dollar though. I do have a few in my collection but the design looks thrown together to me. I think it's the size, which I love on the other's, that makes the design flaw's stand out. Just like a contact mark doesn't make as much difference on a dime vs a dollar. Ok to my peeve about the Morgan. The font used for the motto. It's Olde English and the rest of the lettering isn't. Hate it! Just my opinion. Works as well as the pygmy eagle on the Franklin half reverse. but I do enjoy the Franklin. Go figure. To each his own I guess.
spock there's a whole lot of things you don't know - yet. But there may be a small glimmer of hope :kewl:
i know more than 7 pieces went out. i alsso know that 2 were witht he govt and melted and the other 5 were offered at 5k a piece but the tran neve rhappened
Is that a 6 over 2 variety! BTW - very nice coin - I also did not know that any existed. I was under the impression that all of them were melted and none survived. Now I have to find one to complete my collection. :goof: :headbang:
Dont know about the going to jail thing. I heard if you did find one, it would be priced up there with the 1933 St. Gauden's. You could probably make arrangements with the government to sell it. Sort of a 60/40 split or something.
a family is trying to do that witha bunch of 1933 double eagles last i heard they were walking the court houses every day
wow, GD I don't know what to say. I thought they were all melted and if anyone had one the gov. would take it. If this photo is real would NGC slab one? Woulg they get in trouble if they didn't report it? If it is real you are potentially looking at a very very high priced coin in an auction. Please tell us more.
Tell us more he says. OK - NGC would slab one in a New York second, so would anybody else. Would they get in trouble ? ICG didn't get in trouble when they slabbed a '74 aluminum cent. There - that's more
here is a link for our newer collectors who might not be very familiar witht he story of the 64 http://www.pcgs.com/articles/article337.chtml
A few years back, I was able to hold one of these in my hand. I was escorting a pal of mine, to buy a famous estate collection. Many rare silver coins, and type specimens were up for sale. I was the lucky one to find this coin , out of a pile of old suitcases. Hundreds upon hundreds of old silver dollars were bought for slightly above melt. I believe he paid less than 2 million for the whole lot. Roughly about $80,000 face value. There are probably more out there. Claw
