I have a 1946 Nickel with no mint mark and looks like it might be silver. How can I tell if it has silver content?
That one is just dirty. Seen plenty of them. Reminds me of someone else who used to post here quite a bit regarding a silver 42 he thought he had.
The patina on the war nickels are very different. While it is possible that some 1946 nickels were struck on leftover war nickel planchets, this OP is just a regular nickel. Read the description in the link: https://coins.ha.com/itm/jefferson-...ime-silver-planchet-fine-12-pcgs/a/308-6287.s
Nope. Just discolored. It's a CircCam, at least, though not a terribly appealing one. Ugly, but kind of cool-ugly, I say.
Remember the silver content of a war nickel is only 35% still dropping it won't work it won't sound like a 90% silver coin
