The pics are small and not the best but that coin looks genuine to me. I saw nothing that would make me think it is fake.

The pics for both coins are too poor for me to say. Personally, I wouldn't bid on either one - poor pics and foreign sellers.

So far I haven't had any problems with foreign sellers, it's been all American so far but that will probably change and I'll have a bad buy with a foreign seller eventually. The $10 Indian has me worried but they guarantee it, so I'll give it a shot. I wanted that piece because of the low mintage/year (close to when they recalled gold) and future price possibilities and the other one is more for the gold.

    Toad :)

Ps: Thanks for the evaluation/input! I value your opinion (on coins at least).

Thanks for the input toad.....I will fight this as hard as I can....but beware of purchasing those coins raw that you see on ebay.

Hey guys. I made a potential very big discovery. Since I've been examining my gold coins closely, I have been curious about my 1909 $5 Indian piece. It is a fairly worn coin, probably VF. There is a depression where the mintmark is supposed to be that is viewable in the right lighting by eye. Couldn't quite tell what it was. I recently purchased a 10X magnifying glass and have examined it closer. I figured it was probably the D, but under close inspection and correct lighting; it very distinctly has the "O" outline!!! Unless it is counterfeit, it sure as heck looks like an O, very similar to the one in this pic

but just a lot more worn down!!! IF this in in fact a 1909-O, this find would more than make up for my loss on the indian princess. This coin was actually a gift to me from my parents several years ago, and my dad was telling me he purchased it on ebay. I don't have a good camera, so I am unable to take pics of it at this time. The only problem with the coin is the wear and it was potentially cleaned....but even still, this coin would bring well over 1k if it is an authentic 1909-O. Does anyone have the redbook values for this coin? Or any additional info on the 1909-O Indian? I'm taking my coins into a dealer tommorow to have them examined, so I'll let you know the results. I'm not getting my hopes up too much....but wouldnt that be great?

Fingers crossed! PCGS lists VF-30 at $3250!!, where as the regular 1909 D is like $350. Even cleaned, it should be worth a fair amount over melt. Man I wish I had a decent camera so I could put up some pics. There is still a chance it is a D, but it sure looks O-ish.

I've got to get a good camera too. I bought my ex-girlfriend one but don't have one myself and I need one so I can become a seller on Ebay.

Ps: I just picked up a nice little 1868 $1 Gold Dollar. I'm not sure what it will grade out at so I'll post the pics I have (not the best) and see what our experts have to say.

The color is WAY off. If it is genuine it has been highly polished - probably former jewelry.

The pics are not large enough to tell if it is counterfeit.

I would stay away from that one if I were you.

I remember someone talking about the "A" in America being "off" center and a way to tell a fake and if that is correct, this one looks like the A is off center. Also, in the write-up he clearly claims it is gold but never attests to it being authentic. A ploy perhaps? The coin could be real gold but a forgery, which would make it worth gold value only. The seller has good ratings and appears to be "honest" so why didn't he guarantee authenticity to get a better price, unless it isn't real, only real gold?

Hey. Well, I confirmed with the dealer that my $3 gold is counterfeit. So I emailed the seller again stating how Im going to leave neg feedback....reported the item number to ebay....etc, and the fact that I would inform everyone on these sites of his dealings, so they can watch out. I'll wait for his reply, and if he doesn't want ot reconsider, than I'll post a link to the listing so all can see. If he does offer a refund, than that will clear his name in my book.

It turns out the mintmark is a D on my 1909 indian according to the dealer. Im going to get one more opinion before I declare it a "D", cuz it still looks like an "O" to me. Anyways, I also picked up a $1 type 3 gold piece, and an AU walker half. I have completed my gold type set up through the $10(not including the $3 piece)....grades range from F-AU. I also bought the Dansco 70/70; and have a long ways to fill that one.

Well, it did not end well at all. The seller left neg feedback saying that I had tried to SWITCH COINS!!!!!!!

Here is the link to my purchase!! You guys decide if I tried to switch!! Exactly the same coin I pictured, except it was removed from the bezel. Oh, Im so OUTRAGED!!!

btw: I don't have a $4 stella in my type set....didn't really count it as it is so rare.

    Johnny,
I am 100% certain that the coin you posted is the same one as in the ebay auction. I am also certain the coin is counterfeit.

Did you happen to pay with paypal? If so I would recommend filing a complaint with them, and if you happened to pay with a credit card you may want to consider a chargeback.
