while thumbing through my most recent issue of Numismatic News, the headline "Russians by Seated halves, dollars" sprang out at me. But then there was only a one sentence blurb near the end of the article related to the headline. Apparently several russian buyers are picking these up at large coin shows. Question, is there something we are missing in this series, or is there someone else going on here?
With luck they are buying them from China But to answer your question, I haven't heard of anything. But then ordinary folks like me never hear about it until it's too late.
Yes, Russians are now loaded with money. A couple of years ago when I was at a coin fair here in Sydney, all I can hear Russians fiercely bargaining coins and these people pay thousands of dollars in cold hard cash. They aren't only buying Russian coins but as well as German, American, Italian etc. It's shocking the way how they buy coins.
Some are. I, for one, am glad to see it. They have an amazing, sometimes tortuous history, this last 1,000 years... good days are ahead for our Russian friends.
our best customers are young Russian and Polish "dealers" who always pay in cash and always buy the nicest coins - they are taking them home to the newly rich in those countries. this is what happens when a free markets explodes in a place that only ever had a black market. -steve
