Hello, I was hoping to get a lil wisdom and info on one of the coins I came across and bought at a antique store that does estate sales near by bTurns out the coins I bought were that of a gentleman who once ran a coin shop near by. Many of the coins I bought, variety vista confirmed with a lil leg work to be doubled die, he had a good eye on rarer varieties and it's been an honor to learn such advanced deoubled die. I've always had a love for coins but it was his coins that got me passionate, and ive got a lot to learn. This coin and a few other require a bit more advanced knowledge.. The coin here, it's an error itself making it all more the challenging and I think its shows a strong spread Dd on the obverse. Now at first, I thought it read 1942 but when later returning and different lighting, I seen 1922 and maybe a faint D and posted it In a group I'm in, and they wasnt trying to hear me out. Now, the 2 in question has its trace out lines of a 2 but with the errors, yeah it looks like a 4 in the right shading but wheres the traces of the 4 outline.. Its the dark or the error on the penny that gives the illusion that there's a four. Also, it appears the 2 in 42 and 2 in 22 are different in ways. The 2 in 42 looks more boxed, whereas the 2 in 22 looks more curved at the ends. I leave it in yalls hands now. thank you and looking forward to your responses. Thank you.
All I see is 1942 in all the pictures. Why do you *want* it to be a 1922 D where you have to convince not only yourself, but others of it ? fyi, I'm sure I know the answer to that ...
I hope all the other coins in the lot were in better condition than this one. What else did you find in the lot?
You would be lucky to even be able spend that coin. No matter what it is, in that condition it wouldn't be worth much, if anything.
You wouldnt believe the coins I got, Doubled die war nickels-modern day, rare Buffalo dd nickels, Got one 1943P that hits 4.6 on weight black nickels, one being a 1945 S, and it has a sparkle look to it.. got a beautiful blue tent 1971 D fs, a 1958 D Ddo, it has an extra 1 beside the one, I got a 1946 missing letters.. I been cherry picking for over a month now in all denominations, with all types of mint errors, I even have a double denominations, a 1859 Indian head cent and to the left sits another date of what I believe is a 1890 of another coin. , it has seen better..
