What's the smallest denomination world coin you own? I believe mine is this British West Africa 1936 1/10th of a penny.

My smallest denomination would be an 1882 Japanese 1 Rin which comes out to 1/1000th of a Yen.

I actively collect smallest denominations where I can, but it's not actually that simple to define. Do you mean the coin with the lowest value marked on it, like your 1/10 penny, or the lowest division of another coin like the above 1 rin?

I have a Swedish 1/32 riksdaler from 1852, but that's silver. The smallest denomination issued that year was (I think) the 1/6 skilling, in copper.

My rules for my smallest denomination collection is the lowest value coin issued in any given year.

My intent was smallest denomination issued, as in the smallest monetary denomination from a country. For the US, that would be a half cent. Even so, I’m more than happy with people sharing their smallest denomination by fraction as well. I like all coins :)

Here is a 1902 1/3 Farthing that was minted exclusively for use in Malta. This particular coin I found in a twelve for a dollar at a coin store in Jacksonville, Fl.

I've seen you guys come up with so many great "a bunch for a dollar" deals from coin stores, that I've decided I've got to start hangin' out at the local shop.
*Maybe* I can find some hidden gems !!

You'd be really surprised what some dealers throw away.

BTW, my smallest coin, both in terms of a country's smallest denomination and in terms of actual size, is a 1904 Panama 2 1/2 Centesimos, otherwise known as the "Panama Pill". I currently have 3 of them. I had 4 but gifted one to a friend from Panama.

Sorry about no photos. I still haven't got the hang of getting pix from my cell to CT.

My coin is a Pitis Teboh (uni-face coin with hole), circa 1750 from the city of Palembang on the island of Sumatra (Alaa Min Sultan). It weighs 0.4 grams, is 17 mm in diameter and is made from a Tin-Lead alloy. According to the holder it came in...1500 of them were equivalent to 1 Netherlands Cent. According to the Frank Robinson paper (http://www.fsrcoin.com/palembang.html) ~8000 of the Pitis Bountou (similar coins without holes) were equal to one Spanish 8 Reales.
