Congratulations, Clembo! How does a coin end up with both a D and an S mint mark? The mints are located 1275 miles apart.
Easy, because when one mint runs out of coin dies for a particular coin, another mint will ship left over dies they have to that mint. That mint then repunches the mint mark of their own over the mint mark of the mint they got the dies from.
Congratulations, Clembo! The owner of the store must think very highly of you and your numismatic skills in order to be given such an opportunity. Lou
clembo have you considered painting skyscrapers? and i dont mean doing it yourself i mean bidding on contracts
Congrats I did construction in my teens. Not that CHEAP vinyl siding, but STEEL siding!!!! (I'll never forget the sales pitch). Also did garage slabs, basements, sidewalks and driveways. Then I went to college. I'd like to THINK I could pour a slab of cement if I broke it up into parts. Probably not..... Looks like you have the best of both worlds - grade a Lincoln in the morning and finish a living room in the afternoon. Not everyone can say that. Good luck!
Clembo... I think that opportunity presents itself in strange ways at times. The opportunity to do something you love comes only ever so often. Without risk, comes little reward! I think you will be fine and do a great job! Things will get back to normal before you know it. Perhaps this may take you on a journey farther than you may think! If only I had it to do all over again.... Best of luck to you! RickieB
Of course, but they didn't care. Repunched mint marks, repunched dates, even complete overstrikes were a common occurrence at mints throughout the world at various times. It was a common thing to do as a cost cutting measure.
Clembo, congrats man! You'll have to tell us some stories of what it's like, and all, lol. What we should all do is go visit ya there, imagine that. Your boss would probably like it if everyone bought something. Lol, congrats again! :thumb: Phoenix
CONGRATS!!! I hear Canadian stuff goes cheap in the states keep your eyes open and pull it out of the case for cheap man! remember my first slabbed cent I got?? On another forum a guy from California got one for 65 cents that was in better condition than mine... I paid 60 bucks
Just so turns out that I actually do have a Canadian Nickel collection. Really my only non U.S. stuff. Why? because I got them cheap! I do like the variety as well but getting the first "book" for face helped pique my interest.
I talked to the owner of the shop today. Short and sweet. I have a good painting gig tomorrow but should be off on Saturday. He needs help on Saturday. Will iron out tomorrow but looks like I'll be workin' at the shop this weekend! YESSSSS! clembo
That sounds great clembo!! Many of us would love to have an opportunity like that, I know that I would. Congrats!! It would be great if the part time coin shop job turns into full time and you someday get the chance to travel the country doing the coin show circuit.
Congrats Clembo!!!! You will be great at it and enjoy the work - a perfect combination!!! You see any of those 656 notes come across your counter - keep me in mind ...
