    Hi there,
just wondering if anyone knows if this is a fake or not,
found it in a heap of coins my grandfather had.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks,

Sorry but it looks fake. The 4 and 5 look wrong as does the weak, rounded edged at 7o'clock. More than likely, a Chinese fake

The CC mintmark on an 1845 dollar is a little suspect.

The Carson City mint didn’t strike coins until 1870.

Looks like something from the Seated Dollar sets the Chinese marketed a decade or so ago. The “CC” mint mark is a sure fire sight that this one is no good.

Someone was asking about the authenticity of a 1796 Flowing Hair dollar on Reddit the other day. I feel like some of these counterfeiters aren’t even trying.

    Novelty "Fun Coins" obviously.

The Carson City Mint was created in 1863 but was not put into operation until 1870. It ran until 1885, went on a hiatus, and resumed operations in 1889, after which it ran until 1893, when it closed permanently.

Sorry, they are not “fun coins;” they are garbage. It’s just the Chinese, muling obverse and reverse dies that don’t belong with each other without taking the time to learn that the coin does not exist. This crap can still fool inexperienced people and does damage to the hobby.
