I present, for your grading pleasure, this 1868 Gold Dollar - only 10,500 minted. These pics are all I have for now but I will get better ones posted when the coin arrives. Feel free to also give input on the coin,s authenticity and whether or not you think it's a former jewelry piece (I think it may have been).

Well I see no evidence of it being a jewelry peice, but unfuzzy pictures would certainly help. I see some rim marks, but nothing that would be consistant with jewelry. As for it being authentic - wait for an expert, I would not know. Gold is really hard to grade - or to me at least.

Not sure, going to have to wait till I have it in hand to tell and take some better pics for you all to be able to see it better.

I went ahead and started the post tonight so peeps could see it who wanted to see it and I'll have it soon and will have the pictures uploaded shortly afterwards. It's my first gold $1 and I didn't think I'd win it but no one wanted it, since most of the peeps buying all the gold right now are buying it for the gold and not the coin. I bid the coin and well under its value and got it. I'm happy, as long as it's real and I couldn't find anything that made me uneasy and the seller didn't oversell it either, which is a common ploy for the fake stuff.

    XF details, cleaned, net VF.

Can't comment on authenticity given the size of the photos.

I agree, and I would probably give the coin a net VF as well. It has either been cleaned or was a jewelry piece as you speculate and has lots of rub from being worn as jewelry. Authenticity, as stated, is very hard to tell from the pics.
