The local Safeway grocery store removed their Coinstar machine yesterday.

Has anyone else noticed removals of Coinstar machines where they shop?

My last interesting Coinstar find was a white dime in 2018.

    :)

No, I haven't encountered that yet. I have seen a gift card exchange machine removed. What do you mean by "white dime"- a 1964?

Yes, my local supermarket used to have a coinstar, then they replaced it for something of their own.

Not that long ago I watched a report about cell phone machines causing trouble for honest folk while rewarding thieves.

Just by dropping a cellphone in the machine you were dispensed a predetermined amount of cash.
The autonomous nature of the exchange caused a high degree of pilfering so they had to be removed.

These different types of machines you speak of may have started to become destined to a similar situational fate.

Edit: I have never used a Coinstar machine..

We lost our coinstar machine, of course we lost the grocery store too.

That sounds far fetched. Please link your source.

Agreed, especially when they give a redemption ticket.

Never used one in a store but often in my banks. Found a foreign coin that is supposedly rare and worth up to $450 once. And a bunch of damaged pennies

Haven't heard of any removals, but lately found a couple silver dimes at Walmart coinstars from their "reject" bins. It's usually clad or empty.
