See that silver lookin' color shinin' thru on the edge there? Must be platinum.

Yep. Platinum. No doubt about it.

See them little pockmarks all over the place? Strikethroughs. Every one of 'em.

A platinum core penny with dozens of strikethrough errors, that's what this is.

Oh, and it has a P mintmark, but this is one of the rare ones made at Pittsburgh, not Phillydelphia.

I know those who come here asking "dumb" questions irritating, but we were all "dumb" once. I know its hard for me to believe I didn't always know how coins were made, how error coins could happen, all of the US mints, etc etc. It seems like it is an innate part of me, having known it for almost my whole life. However, most people on earth do not know such information, and many every year come here seeking answers since this Board is highly seen on Google searches.

I just hope everyone remembers that when someone posts a "dumb" question. To me, no question is dumb if the person honestly doesn't know the answer, and is willing to learn.

Yeah, some like the lady arguing about her "Hong Kong" Continental Curency dollar simply didn't want to hear the truth, convincing herself she had a million dollar rarity, but most people are simply wrong or don't know, but at least they are coming here asking us the question, right?

I know how you like food and cooking. If you like Portobello mushroom caps stuffed with crabmeat, tomato and melted cheese on top, I can get you the caps at a very good price.....say.....50c/lb. Interested?

Oh, absolutely. Though one wishes some had a tiny bit more common sense and were less argumentative.

Let's have a laff at the expense of the sillier or more stubborn ones and go right on helping those who are willing to learn.

Some of us will continue to ask "dumb questions", even after multiple decades in the hobby. (Quoth LordM, looking in the mirror...)

Uh...what? :cyclops:o_O:confused::rolleyes: What does this have to do with LordM's spoof post?...or am I missing something?

Nah, I get it. Valid point. Spoofing can be unkind.

But it can also provide comic relief, if, like me, you have ever thought, "I will never read another thread about a post-1964 modern coin again, without bashing my head against the monitor and/or throwing up inside my mouth a little bit."

BTW, those pix in the OP ain't staged. Found the penny in the street behind my car, when I came out of the post office.

I know y'all weren't believing it. I mean, who ever finds a parking lot penny on the ground, right?

No Chris, I know what a spoof is & recognized the OP's post as such. What I don't understand is post #8.

    It wasn't damaged.

Coins simply cannot get damaged after the Mint, therefore it must be an error.
You have too first understand that *fact* then all will be good!!
