I half a few coins but one is interesting a 2004 Obama Kennedy half dollar. How much is it worth and how many was made.
Welcome to Coin Talk. No US Coins were made with Obama's portrait on it. Photos of what you have would help to identify it. 2004 Kennedy Half dollars were made available to the public only by direct purchase from the US Mint. None were released for circulation.
Haha.. They are all just novelty coins and/or medals. You should see the new president novelty items.. But I'm not going there!
There is a guy in our coin club who roll searches half dollars and a few years back he picked up a bank box of halves that had several hundred of the Obama stickered and plated coins. Best guess is that they weren't selling so the maker dumped them at the bank.
Masterswimmer. Actually, although the norm was that no living President was ever depicted on a U.S. coin, there is, at least, one exception. A circulating 1 dollar commemorative coin, of 2014, engraved by Phebe Hemphill, of President Calvin Coolidge. "This design caused an uproar at the time as most people did not want living individuals on U.S. coins." Coolidge, from 1923 -1929, was 30th President of the U.S.A.
Calvin Coolidge was alive and in office when his profile appeared on the 1926 Sesquicentennial half dollar. Of course, one might recall the remark that Dorothy Parker made when told of Coolidge's death, "How can they tell?"
Gee! They painted it! Everybody knows that for the coin to be valuable it has to be gold plated.....not!
