Yea, he's under 50. Back in the 'old days' of the 90's there were just three of us 'young' dealers in our 20's. From that time frame its just him and me. He is truly a knowledgeable guy and has amassed a lot of experience (despite his having gone to the 'dark side', which from personal experience is far more profitable but another thread). Some time back in those days I had a somewhat public disagreement with Alan Walker (of Bank Leu, not associated with the current dealers operating under a similar name). David was the only one to risk his reputation and agree with me. As for this episode...I remember watching it with my wife. She asked something along the line of 'OK hotshot, is it real and what is it worth'. I said, 'real, $1,500'. I'm glad Vagi and I agree. Still a nice coin... As for Zlobin: Everyone in the business knows he is a scam artist. But within the realms of capitalism, as long as there is a seller and buyer coming together...who can argue? I am not saying what he is doing is right. What he is doing is damaging to our hobby and no good came come of it (other than he is getting rich fooling unsuspecting collectors). Its the reason why he exists solely on Ebay and nowhere else. He cold not pull off his scams anywhere else.
I feel that I now know the definition of “pig”. I need a shower. Hey, here is my Caesar manufactured in the 1st two weeks of March, 44 BCE. I wonder if the Z-pig would buy mine for $4,400USD? Maybe I should adjust mine for Alegandron-history-inflation, and offer it to him for a measly $250,000... Struck last two weeks of Caesar’s life... One of my Best Buys was from him. I offered 150 (a low to fair price) on a Antonines pius very rare quadrants with a modus reverse which had priced some where in the 4 figures. To my astonishment, he accepted. Every other reasonable offer I made on his coins he has rejected, go figure!
TIF, Vagi and I are sitting in a hotel room waiting on a flight from DC to Tampa as our flight was canceled last night. He got a good laugh from your crush. Btw Ken, vagi is not under 50, he’s 6 weeks older than me. For your files TIF, here’s a more recent pic of Vagi Wednesday. Barry
I remember that episode and just chuckled all the way through it. As for Zlobin, enough has been said about him. There have been others on pawn stars that have pulled similar actions like Zlobin with U.S. coins.
I think he had his ‘5 minutes of glory’ with that episode...we have an expression in French to qualify this kind of guy : une ‘tête à claques’. But my English is not good enough to find a good translation. Maybe @Cucumbor could help me...
@dougsmit I can understand you on this! I think I have purchased 2 coins - because I knew I would not likely get a shot at them again and they were very much in my focus. I know I overpaid for the grade but I still had to have them. Also is the break on that Domna IVLIA DOM-NA AVG?
52? Try for 25! Thank you for a great idea. Tomorrow is my 37th birthday (yes, I am dyslexic) and my gray hairs are premature (each and every one of them).
The "44 AD" thing slapped me in the face as well. (Edited to add, after watching more of the video: Zlobin's fake laugh when he and Rick were haggling over the price made him sound like a Bond villain.)
Here's my old 44 AD BC JC denarius. An ugly duckling, sure, but hey, a lifetime issue, from that fateful year. And for less than 500 bucks. With most of his name legible.
I kind of Iike it...lots of character on that one. I suppose I'll share mine....here is what $912 (including shipping) got me....
Definitely nicer than my "budget" example. Both represent pretty good "bang for the buck", I think. I kinda like the bankers' marks on both coins. "Character", and all that, y'know. See, Mr. Zlobin? These can be had for three figures!
