$2 bills

While in town yesterday, I stopped by to talk to my favorite teller at a local bank. I wanted to quiz her on where they get their coins from, i.e. Federal Reserve, Loomis, etc. Turns out they get them from some company in Northern Montana that I've not heard of. The head teller got involved in our conversation and she assured me that they were just a mix of circulated coins. Same with the other coin rolls. Anyway, I inquired if she had any $2 bills, as in the past she only had a few. Turns out she had $70 worth, so I bought them for the heck of it.
Going through them, I noticed eleven of them were Minneapolis and all started with double zeros. Nothing special, just caught my eye. Seven were from Atlanta.
Three that were from Minneapolis were serial numbers from the same sheet.
Two were star notes, and one was a first issue that someone ripped the stamp off of and spent it.
None were in super condition and will be spent, but just wanted to share my experience.

Very nice page! Is there (anywhere) a similar page for pre-FRB $2?

    I've got several 1928, lots of 1953 & 1963...and a very few FRB.

I'm not sure why I keep 'em...but began accumulating Mr. Jefferson as a child; not collecting in any structured sense...just picking them up when I could. Now it's a habit. wlw

Garlicus Debt is dumb, cash is king.

I just ask my bank to order them for me

So...do you just use them for ready cash? Or sort through 'em for serial number anomalies...or the odd red seal? wlw

I use them as gifts for the kids. Occasionally spend some, to see the looks on the cashier’s faces, lol.

I can easily get behind that.
Kids (anyone under 40) may be savvy in many things I don't understand, but it seems to me that fundamental history ain't high on that list. Ask most of them to make change for a transaction without using electronic machinery, and you're bound to be disappointed, and/or short-changed. Maybe 'New Math' took care of that skill.

The blank stare received when offering a deuce at checkout is worth carrying a few of them in your pocket. Carry On! wlw

    Nice finds!
Save the 1995 star and 2009 star if possible:
    1995- run of 128,000 (2nd run out of 3)
    2009- (single run) of 512,000.
