I came across this coin today, I put it up over 20 yrs ago and been searching high and low for it. I have 2 Canadian 2 dollar coins 1996. I'm can't find another error to compare to was hoping someone could tell me if this is a mint error thanks.

Imho, it looks like a coin roll crimping machine mark.
Is there another error you see that I might be missing?

No worries, it happens many times to coins that get wrapped. Could be human or machine error. They have different heads that attach on the end of the machine to give you a nice crimped roll and if you push in to hard it can scrape on the coin.

Sadly looks like a crimping mark. I see these all the time.

    It's not the paper.
As R-Rabbit shows it's a metal part of the crimping machine that rolls the paper down and around.

With the manual ones (like the ones ppl use to resell rolls of coins) they can push hard to create a gouge around the entire coin cutting through letters, or even move it while it's rolling creating inconsistent scraps around, or a variety of other damage that an unrefined manual process can do.
