hi all, im new to this fascinating forum and hope to gain knowledge from this, can anyone perhaps give some insight on the value of this 1964 jfk coin? A friend was inquiring, was a gift from the sultanate of oman to him around 30 years ago and im helping him get some insight of what its worth.
Silver melt value for a 90% silver 1964 Half Dollar would be $5.46 Looking at your coin it does not look to be in good condition and it has a bit of toning. The case it is held in does not make it any more valuable.
Paddy is right on. However I will say the case is appealing though it doesn’t add any numismatic value. When these were struck in 1964 many people hoarded them as JFK was quite the beloved man at the time. So now all these years later there are still many pristine examples to be had.
The holder ads interest, but it's not worth anything as a collectable today. Kennedy's successor, Lyndon Johnson, played on the martyred president's popularity in his campaign in 1964, but to most people, Kennedy was a president from the days before they were born.
