Can anyone shed some light on the reason for this flat area on the obverse between the In God we trust and Liberty as well as within the Liberty?
It also appears at the 4:00 o'clock position, but doesn't show up very well in the pic.
In the picture, the flat looks like a "berm" but it is in fact flat and on the same plain as the hair
The reverse is damaged, (hopefully by the minting) and there is a chunk out of the right wing. Whatcha think?
As always, thank you in advance.

Looks like the coin was mangled after it left the mint PMD not an error.

Thanks for the input, but how did this alleged coin abuser raise that area up to the same plane as the head? It should be on the same plane as the background.

because when you use a blow torch in the same area, the force of the fire hitting the metal in one spot could either 1.) make it bubble up. 2.) force of the blow* hence blow torch, made it rise as would wind make waters wicked. thats just my observation

maybe even the copper clad got hotter in the core and made the nickel bubble up

I was born in 1979 and think it’s a cool quarter. (...) I would love to discuss. Please call (phone # removed)

It's damaged and worthless. You should never post your number.
