NGC and this one might be a bit tricky but I know you all know your stuff. PhotoEditor_20190426_194021047.jpg PhotoEditor_20190426_194103021.jpg

AU 58 not Full Steps. I've read that if there is any vertical mark connecting any of the steps then they aren't considered Full Steps.

The same thing for FSB Merc dimes......No Connections.

I will let this one go for a few more hours to give others a chance.

66 5FS. NGC may not see same. PCGS would grade FS. ANACS 5.5FS.

Nice coin. Far better than my '41D, but lacking some visuals. I really don't care for numbers in grades, but forced to, I think @Browns Fan nailed it. Maybe the photos are at fault.

The Browns did well in the NFL Draft these past two days.

62, but not FS. Bottom step is the problem.

What is making you guys lean towards 62 out of curiosity? I admit I missed the dark spots on the reverse east, so depending on luster I could see 65 but that’s about as low as I would call this one from the images.

Well, looking at it close up, I almost went AU, but I feel that in hand it could go MS, but not FS. That's the problem with grading by pics, & why I rarely participate in GTG posts.

Am I missing something? I enlarged it as much as I can, and aside from maybe the very bottom step, it looks clean. You need 5 sets of steps, you can get away with losing one. I've also read that they were loosening up on being so critical on the step thing.
I hope dude gets all that thing is worth. And if everything Ive been reading is true, then he has a pretty good payday coming his way.
I mean that is true ly amazing that the steps could look that good some what, 78 years later?!? That's amazing

I'll need the more schooled people to help me please. I just went to the PCGS site to check on this nickle thing. And I'm confused about what I found. (I know that's easily done with me). Bare with me,,,,, a 1941 D FS MS62 IS $10/ MS63 IS $13/ MS64 IS $76/ MS65 IS $765/MS66 IS $1377/ but then an ms647 goes down to $213??? Please explain the logic in this, where the highest graded coin is reduced drastically like that.
    Thank you very much

The ngccoin.com does a lot of that also. I don't understand how a VF coin can be worth twice as much as an MS. I'm guessing it has to do with the population or the rarity/scarcity thing. But I really don't know.

Can anyone explain or know why a lower grade coin would have a higher value than a higher grade coin?

MS66 5FS. 41D are usually very well struck with many of them having nice steps.

I agree with the 41's being well struck with nice steps. I have several nice examples with clean steps that are better than the OP's coin. Now give me a 53S or 54S with steps like the one posted in this thread and I'll be estatic.

It just dawned on me that I might have been looking at the population pages instead the value pages. I'll have to go back and take a look.
