Was all of that cash together, like folded up or just laying on the ground? I'm sure some one is missing that money big time.

    John Skelton Morgan man!

I worked as an airport security screener for twelve years. Passengers were always dropping money on the floor. We weren't allowed to keep it, so I just left it on the floor. Hard to do when you're dying to know what it was. But my biggest haul was a $20 bill in a hallway full of people.

I found a crisp $100 bill on the floor as I entered a local Indiana casino. It fueled a great winning streak. It was meant for me to find it (not really, just dumb luck).
Congrats on the find. I'd use it to buy coins. :)

That is an awesome story! (And those of us who knew ancestors who lived through the depression totally get it.)

Although, I do hope there were other shoe boxes, too, in the house -- i.e., that he didn't save *only* string!

It's been many days since I have posted on this thread. It's been slow. 1 cent or 3 cents now and then.
Today I found this bunch at the corner where I work..

I wonder if it would pay for me to move to NYC? But that might cut down on @paddyman98's take.

Change on the ground adds up over time! I look for coins every time I walk anywhere. I figure a cent found is one I didn't have. I came out of Kroger's Sunday night and 5 Bills were blowing around in the parking lot. 1 (50), 2 (20's), 1 (5), and 1 (1). $96.00 paid for my groceries and put $16.00 in my wallet. My wife was happy as well.

Doesn't it choke you to have to pay that ridiculously high "Processing Fee"?

I was thinking that, too. And hoping he didn't actually have to pay that.

The CoinStar (or whatever it's called) in our local grocery chain store gives you two options: (1) to get cash back minus the processing fee; or (2) get store credit for the full amount.

I hope he got the latter! Otherwise, I'm not sure why one wouldn't simply spend the cash at stores rather than pay the processing fee.

Well, 12% does seem outrageous, but (1) it's NY, & (2) we've seen paddy's pennies (that's what they call them on the receipt) & nickels, & since they more than covered the fee, could we just call them sacrificial?...:smuggrin::smuggrin:

I just walked from my mom-in-law's apartment to my mom's apartment. 7 Blocks.
Picked all these up in that short walk!

Unlike we poor souls in Minnesota that can't afford to toss our money away, it must be fun to be in those rich FOG hunting grounds of NYC.

Banks in this area have coin sorting machines similar to Coinstar except you receive full value for your change.
