Interesting collapsed die state on a 1768 Demi Sol?

@Fred Weinberg NGC would not know an error coin if it bit them. One of my first posts here was about how badly they botched what is obviously a coin struck twice.
    https://www.cointalk.com/threads/ngc-gaffs-badly-on-obvious-flip-over-dbl-strike.335084/

I will say this, corrosion or no. It did not happen outside the mint. Metal does not grow... if it bulged on the obverse why is there no hit on the reverse? Care to explain how that would work?

I could submit it to PCGS... like NGC, they likely will ignore the error and blab on that it is corroded as NGC did about the micro scratches in the thread I posted above. Grading companies are just like that, stuck up [edited- even the use of replacement symbols in place of curse words is forbidden. See Rule 1, paragraph 2. ~Mod]. As I mentioned... they missed the brockage on the flip over double strike and I had to resubmit it to them and only when I made a stink about it. For what these guys get paid to do what they do, they ought to get it right the first time.... Is that too much to ask? The brockage could not be more obvious.... guys name was Dave Camicie or something like that... anyhow...

I am glad you have thick skin as I was never trying to get into a negative discourse. What I was trying to do is get you to explain yourself and not give one word responses. And no, I would not make you pay if I got it slabbed as a collapsed die coin, that is just not how I am. I might show it to you to make a point, but thats all.

@cpm9ball Why would I report you?

@R_rabbit disagreeing is fine, but the point would be for you to offer what you feel is going on, not just to disagree to be disagreeable...

I agree, I would never bother to have such a thing slabbed for reasons already provided in this thread. It was just a question....

Then I guess it's 'Show and Tell'.

I'll be looking, in about 4-6 weeks, for you to
post the coin in a PCGS holder with the error
described as such, or in similar fashion.

...and, in trying to be magnanimous, since you
don't like NGC, I'll include ANACS with PCGS,
and I'll double down - I'll pay you double all
your fees and postage. Please allow me to do so.

You seem to be a bit frustrated that I gave a
'one word response' (to quote you)

Your first and only question in your first post,
was, after the description, "Agree or Disagree"

I simply posted 'disagree' - which is a perfectly
legit response to "Agree or Disagree?"

Imho, I have never handled an ancient coin such as yours.
It looks interesting yea! How did that occur. Only one can ponder.
Perhaps it was in a great fire hundreds of years ago and got a blister? Heating blister from when it was created? Extra grease in the die ..any number of possibilities.

He's not going to submit it, Fred. He's just trying to get under the skin of as many people as possible. He should be reported for impersonating a human being.

    @cpm9ball

I already stated I would not submit it prior to his second post about submitting it.

Wow what an old hens coop this place is....

I have a Moon Rock, but I'm not going to submit it to NASA
for authentication, so there, take that!

P.I., I said that it's your coin and so you can believe anything you'd like
to about it. However, I don't understand why you wouldn't want to have
it authenticated as such, especially to prove all us wrong.

Oh, I forgot - NGC doesn't know anything, and PCGS is probably the same.

Your knowledge superceeds all of their experience in total. I'm in awe.

Here's another challenge: please post here a letter from any known
specialist in that coin, stating that it's a die collapse, late die state, etc.

There simply HAS to be someone else who knows this area of numismatics
    that agrees with you.

I have an idea, Fred. Why don't we ask @mikediamond since he is a member here as well as on the staff of Coin World?

Nah! That wouldn't work. The OP would probably have to give his real name.

Well I think that it MIGHT be showing some sinking of the die face, but so what, that won't change the value (Unless you can find a collector who collects die stage of that particular variety. Even then unless there are two or more of them competing for the coin it won't affect the value.). Is this issue known from a die where the die face sank in that area? If so are there pictures of such a coin?

    @Conder101
Thank you, yours is the first "considerate" response I have gotten yet.

I will research your question. No, I am not interested about its value... I just thought it was kind of a cool subject for discussion. I was wondering what it could be and guessing at the idea of a collapsed die.

I had no idea I would be teamed up on by a gaggle of old hens...

I don't think Mike D. is an expert in 1768
coinage. I meant a world coin expert -
either a collector or a dealer.

I'd be glad to hear Mike's opinion of it, but
I'd really like to see a letter from a specialist
    of that era or series.

@Fred Weinberg the "&" on the reverse tells us it was done at the mint in Aix, and the heart at 6:00 oclock on the obverse tells us the mint master was Cyprien Sabatier....

Lets raise him from the dead and ask him!!

:U) Just a little levity to lift what has become an overly heavy thread....

Meanwhile, as I did with the 1770 coin we discussed (also a demi sol from the Aix mint BTW), I will dig a bit to see if I can find more.
