hi there, i'm in a bad spot. my lovly wife can't find a job anywhere and i've had to put my collection aside to pay bills . it's no fun when you have the bug like me to get the coins i want, but i just can't do it right now. i'm collecting wheats in au- ms+ and it just get tough . this has been going on for a couple of year and i'm not going to sell my coins because i've put alot opf time and effort into it . so life goes on. somebody please ,can you relate?:computer:
Oh yeah. I can relate. Finances have been tight for me lately too. The economy sux. Just keep your head down and your feet moving- things will get better eventually. Right now I'm mainly roll searching. Not finding much- but it's virtually a no cost way to collect. You always only have face value in the coin. I'm helping my kids work on an Eisenhower Dime collection. They are enjoying it and I am too. Andy

I feel you brother. Things have been tight at our house too. Thank god my wife makes a good living, while I work on getting my own restaruant. But strangely enough roll searching as really SAVED us money. With me sitting at home searching coins, that's time I'm not out drinking with friends or working on my Subaru (which I miss). If things are getting really tight, start off by putting together a household budget and keeping to it and have the wife send out as many resumes as possible. Don't be discouraged just keep at it. Good luck!
Duh- yeah Roosevelt Dime- I was typing as I we were getting ready to leave for a Family Easter Gathering. Had Eisenhower on the brain- I'm reading a biography. Andy
I think this happens to most of us at one time or another, I have been there done that like 10-12 years ago. Got married, changed jobs, moved out of state, and money got short so coin collecting went on hiatus and I sold a lot of stuff. Be thankful you have a hobby that at least has value if you have to sell it, unlike say stamps or something that have practically no value liquidity wise.
i cant exactly relate to your story but being a teenager, I know how tough it can be when you see a coin you want and cant afford to buy it, stainless
I can relate. I haven't been able to buy a coin in almost three months, and I expect it to be another 6 months, give or take, before I can make another purchase. Its stinks, but the neccessities in life have to come first. I get by by reading about coins, enjoying the coins I already have, and enjoying the discussions here at cointalk.
My wife just got back to work after 8 months so I can relate all too well. I've been collecting for a long time and believe me it sucked as I'm not into roll searching or pocket change. Just can't find those 19th Century type coins that way. After months I finally DID buy something. Just got a bag of 5000 wheat cents (only the second time I've done that in 30+ years). Enjoying it actually as it does kill of lot of "collecting" time especally with my lousy vision. I use a 16X loupe on every coin so this is going to take a while. I'm also sorting by decade as well as "coins"of interest". Finding some nice AU and BU coins a smattering of Indian Cents so far. I work so this endeavor will tie up a month of my time and do plan to sell a lot of them. Best find so far a 1919-D in AU. Hang in there. I put my collecting on hold for years at one point so it can be done. Getting back into it is really a pleasure at that point. clembo
Man, finally they are selling the good stuff. Soon they are going to put coin dealers out of work. All they need is there own grading service, and they got it made! Phoenix
