Some of you may not know this, but I am only 13. I use my birthday money and holiday money mostly towards silver coins. I like collecting late 1800 coins to early 1900's. I mainly collect it because I like having some history as the old coin itself, and also because I think silver is going to go up and my coins be worth more than what they are now. Most kids at school make fun of me for collecting, should I continue, or should I buy other teenage stuff with my money such as games, electronics ect... Thank you
I gave up for a five or six years during and before high school, and I missed out on SO many good deals. For example, remember when gold was only 200 something an ounce? Yeah, I was busy buying music. (Of course, Jethro Tull is just as timeless as gold )
Well im 29, and I wished I didnt listen to my friends when I was 13. I say continue what your doing, if YOU like it then do it. At least when your older you appreciate it more. Not to mention that the things your friends are probably buying wont hold value for more than 6 months. Just my opinion though.
Ryan I will ask but one question do you enjoy the hobby more than electronic games? Do the same people make fun of those who happen to read books? You are your own person and therefore you and you alone can make this decision Whatever you decide good luck with it :hail:
let me make up your mind for you... http://cgi.ebay.com/1909-S-VDB-PCGS...234277426QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item110234277426 Look, If you truly enjoy the hobby, it won't matter what any one says. I too am fairly young and ALL my friends bug me when I'm peering over their shoulders at a counter trying to catch a glimpse at their change, or serial numbers on a bill. It's just what happens.. To everyone else.. we are wasting our time.. To us, They .. .. are just dumb.. ahha jk who cares what every one says man. Why should someone judge on what someone else enjoys so much. and.... come on... video games... your better than that. Id much much rather look at a Voyageur Dollar under a loupe than sit in a dark room with my friends any day.. - shawn
Well, yes I do like collecting, but I am beginning to think it is just because it contains silver. I only collect silver coins because copper and clad are junk to me (no offense). Don't get me wrong, I do like the actual coin itself, but my mind keeps saying invest in silver. Am I taking a risk?
Well whats a bigger risk. Buy a ps3 or xbox 360, or buying silver. Granted silver will always be worth something, a ps3 or xbox in 5 years wont be worth 10 dollars
It all comes down to wht you enjoy. I happen to also be a big fan of Halo (my xbox live gamertag is also Ardatirion )
Okay, thank you all. Heck, with all this encouragement, I think I will complete my set of Walking Liberties now. Thanks again!
thats Great news! and remember.. This isn't something you need to drop every cent into.( horrible pun intended) You wont be a bad person for buying an xbox or another video game console. This is a hobby for most. Whenever you ca afford to put stuff away.. put it away. Or like me I havnt bought any coins for about amonth now. and I still get out go for dinner, play the occasional C.O.D 4. But believe me.. when Im doing all that. my brain is always thinking about this place and the next coin I want to get!
THEM FIGHTEN WERDZ! Lol, just joking. I kind of see your point, I am your age myself, and personally it does get hard to balance everything out. It depends really how much you want to spend on coins, and how much you want to on other things. Take music with me. I love music, but I have only two CD's, of my two favorite bands. Everything else I like to listen to when it plays on the radio, or I like to watch recorded music videos on my TV (I have DISH Network, so it works out a bit). It all boils down to IMHO what you want to spend money on. Don't let other people influence on what to buy, and what not too. Because chances are these are people that you won't know 10 years from now. Phoenix
Just do what you like. It's not bad to diversify your interests. I've been collecting since I was a pre-teen, but I did all the other stuff kids were doing as well. That way you can have fun and won't get burned-out focussing on just one thing. If you're starting to question your interest in a particular hobby, give it a rest for a while and do something else. I'm not saying give it up, but just slow down. You'll come to enjoy it more. Guy~
I collect and have no problems, only the occasional brother who threatens my collection if I don't do something (funny how they used to be so much bigger and stronger and now look what happened, I've beat the two oldest at one time... little punks) walkers are soooo much fun to collect. Are you doing the short set or the entire thing? I have 3 more to go and have already started a peace dollar collection and somewhat an ike, morgan, and barber collection.
Ummm - I am a lot older and some people still kid me about collecting, I just shrug it off. BUT I have now trained the ladies at work (and a few others) if they find a star note to bring it to me. They also will drop off wheaties at my desk. And walking liberties are a good set to complete. Good luck on that!
I have already completed the 40's and 30's, now i have to do the 20's and teens which are very expensive, but I will find a way!
Ryan, I'm 15 and people make fun of me for being a penny pincher and just a very niggardly person when it comes to money. I don't have video games, but I do have so many other hobbies including coin collecting. Stick with it bud because you will impress someone, someday!
Carp for 15 I just had to look up one of the words your used.....Maybe I should go back to school....lol
