People do crazy things to get those coins for their Registry Sets.

Hey, you guys are missing the point. This coin is an "Early Release". That means it was mailed before otherwise identical coins. That's gotta be worth at least a 1000% premium.

You folks don't underatnd the rarity of this item, if you remember, 2006 was when NGC had to change "first strike" into "early release"... Thats why there are on 62 of these compared to the 1000s of other ms70s... The bidder was obviously paying to keep this historic piece to show the victory of the collector over the TPGs...

My humble opinion... I hate to see the future return on that investment.

There has to be some logic to that deal.

The problem is that I can't see it.

Logic. how about a fool and his money are soon parted.

hats off to the guru who sold it. I am sure that whoever purchased it knew what they were doing, probably a registry collector. Me, I say its bullion +- 15%

Gotta agree, melt + 20%. Chuckle, I'd be willing to bet those are $$$s from a newly graduated Neurosurgeon who's received some Dr.'s Office investment advice...

It doesn't take a registry set for people to overpay for coins.

It is more like he or she is simply an idiot. Excuse me, that was rude. I should have said simpleton. No actually idiot is correct.

No, but it certainly takes a registry set for someone to overpay by several THOUSAND dollars!

With all due respect, that is simply not true. This may come as a surprise, but people have been overpaying for coins long before registry sets came onto the scene. Respectfully...Mike

    Silver Eagles

    Whoa!
I think even knowing is pedigree I would not be able to justify paying that much for one ounce of nearly pure silver.

As a matter of fact, I have a 2007 that looks every bit as good as that '06, and I got it free from a dealer on e**y. I had bid on quite a few of his coins and when the auction closed he was very apologetic about not being able to find one silver Washington quarter I had won. I told him that it was okay, there will be another one someday. So he credited me the cost and when I received my order he had included the fresh matte finish '07 Silver Eagle as an apology.
Now, you don't find many of those kind of honest and sensitive sellers on auction sites.

I take it the person who sold this particular '06 was a bit on the hard-shelled side of the transaction.
That is okay, whatever one is willing to pay is what they think the item is really worth... regardless of actual value.
Maybe the seller is a descendant of P.T. Barnum...:rolling:
