I'm not too happy with the mint right now. We ordered a proof set and a silver proof set nearly a month ago. They held the money in the account for nearly two weeks, and never took it out. Then the hold dissapeared and the money was back in the account. Then today in the mail, we get the sets...and they take the money out NOW, overdrawing the account. Now all the banks are closed and no money can be put into the accounts until monday, and by then it will be too late.
I don't know what you are talking about. The mint has never and will never "hold" your money. It will only take the money from your account when the product ships. It was always your coins that were on hold, not your money. The minute you ordered the coins you should have earmarked the money for the mint. Maybe I just am now understanding what you are saying......
When we signed in and viewed the bank account when we ordered the coins, and beside it said transaction type: hold. We just got the coins in today, and I knew that they hadnt taken the money out because the holds dissapeared. So I checked the account, and the latest thing is ANOTHER hold, which if they take the money out, will over draw the account now.
you have until monday to take care of it. Nothing posts over the weekend. Especially if you are in an area where no banks are open on Saturday. By the way, how is it living in Dogpatch? You do have phone lines, right?
This same thing has happened to me lately when I have placed an order through the mint. I have tried to explain this phenomenon in another thread about mint charges. This happened to me with my recent purchases of FS coins and the Baldies Comm coins. I have spoken with a mint representative and this is what she explained to me. It is not unusal for the mint to place a pending charge against your account before they accually withdrawl the money. Once they confirm that the funds are in the account, then they cancel the pending amount and place the actually charge. There may be a few days period in between when the pending charges clear and the actual charges are posted. It used to drive me nuts, but I am used to it by now. In fact, she said that because of all the computer problems they are having with their new system, things are pending longer than usual. In fact, this happened to me a week ago. For one week, I saw the charges for my purchase under the pending section of my account on-line. So when a charge is pending, my "available" amount is decreased, but the "current" amount remains unchanged. Then the pending charge went away and the monies were added back into my account. Of course this messes up what funds you think you have available. Now I am just waiting for my coins to arrive and when they do I expect the total amount to be charged and debted from the account. The total funds seem to be debted around the time the coins are delivered - give or take a day or two. I'm getting in way over my head explaining this, but for me this banking phenomenom is not unual and I believe JUSTFORTHIS06 is experiencing this as well. In the past I wouldn't have "earmarked" the money until it was actually withdrawn, but now I agree with Becky that as soon as I place the charge I debt the money out of my account so I don't have to worry about it later or in this case, I wait until I see the charges go into my pending file. I hope this makes sense. I am just explaining what happens at my bank and I understand that every bank may be different.
Actually this turned out to be very interesting. I just always take out the charges immediately when I order. It took three months for me to get the last product I ordered.... no problem when it shipped because it was already deducted from the register. I just assumed everyone else did the same thing.:kewl:
