from 1916-1945 there are 80 dimes, yes? I have but merely one and it’s a rotated die. Has there been a show me your Mercury thread before? Can the community provide 79 more obverse photos of all of them that be from their collection? Here’s mine...
Without a mirror shot, how can we see that this is a rotated die? From your pics it looks pretty normal to me.
@Devyn5150 The easiest way to show the rotation is to staple it in one of the cardboard 2x2's, making sure that the coin is perfectly level to the bottom edge of the 2x2. Then, mark that edge on both sides of the 2x2 with a Sharpie or something. Chris
what i do, draw a line on a 2x2, before coin is in, cutting it in half vertically, then put coin in level to bottom edge..
In both cases, we must take your word for the accuracy because we can't see the entire 2x2. From what you have provided, I can see that the cent is tilted slightly because neither LIBERTY nor the date is level. Your method is not exact, but close enough! The problem you have with the nickel is that there is nothing on the obverse to gauge how level it is. In a case like this, you should use the word "MONTICELLO" or even the building, itself, on the reverse as your reference. Again, your method is not exact, but close enough! Chris
Lol. I took it out of the 2x2 for photos and to put it in a capsule while organizing. I’ll put it back and post the pics. Lol, I just wanted to see yer Mercury. I like the design of them.
Lol, okay nevermind, in the capsule it looks fine, I must have had it crooked in the flip, don’t I feel silly, lol... learned something nevertheless, I was wondering how to discern definitively, now I know, thanks y’all. Still wanna see some Mercury.
Yeah sorry my bad, not rotated, I still be in Monday mode. “Pretty normal...” meaning, commonly seen in this condition? I’m still working on lighting with the photos btw... it’s curious, it is one thing to be a collector but with that you almost automatically have to become a photographer as well.
I’ve been researching models and prices of detectors. It’d be my first. Hopefully the when I get one is soon! Great 1941 find!
As I ain’t never even held one, I think I’ll go for something a little less... just basic to begin with. Actually... I was doing a yard for a friend this morning/afternoon. The rake took 4 hours and in the last half hour of it, my find appeared and I at first thought a loonie, but no... lol, something way more cool. The coin is darker than the photos.
