Doesn't that usually mean that none are graded higher? Not sure, but who cares. I am sure there will be higher graded 2008's.
The coin is, apparently, not a mint set coin. What leads you to believe it is common? It is very early in the year to give up on high grades but the buyer might know something we don't.
As stated registry madness. I have no probllem with the seller actually. Nor the buyer if you get right down to it. Would like the buyer to buy from me if he's that far gone.
Same feeling here. My only thought was - man wait a bit and see what prices will be like. Sure on somethings it might cost you a few bucks, but most will decrease after the initial madness. I know on my silver eagles (uncirculated and proof) graded coins - every year they come and people go crazy on bidding on them. I waited a little over a month and saved about $20 dollars on the two coins.

I haven't gotten an MS-67 cent in change or in a roll for three or four years now. Even MS-66's are tough for some of these. Thirty years ago MS-63's were tough some years.
He's claiming it's at the top of the population census i.e. "finest known". Two problems with that : I checked census on both NGC and PCGS. Neither one is listing census for 2008 yet, so how could he know this is in the top of the condition census ? In recent years, both TPGs have certified many Lincolns in the MS68 range, with several MS69 and even MS70. 2008 should follow suit, so the MS67 is unlikely to be "top pop". PCGS census is members only, but NGC is available to all. The bidders should have checked the census; they would have learned that MS67 is not that big a distinction for these.
Maybe I am confused, but I have a ms69 2006-W ASE, graded by ANACS, who gives out less 70s than pcgs, and it sells for about $75.00, while a MS70 {PCGS just sold for 5,500.00. The condition of these two same date coins is indistinguishable to me. Is mine really so bad, or is the PCGS coin so much better?
MS69 coins look fabulous; there's very little room for improvement, so I doubt the PCGS 70 could possibly be so much better as to justify the high price tag. For some folks, there's a mistique about the "perfect grade" of 70.
The very high grade coins are from mint set, SMS (special mint set) or SF (satin finish). The cents made for circulation have been of very poor quality in recent years.
