Hey everyone. Could use some help. I believe Lincoln’s eyelid is doubled on this cent. Possibly the profile as well? Doesn’t seem to match the varieties I was able to find on coppercoins, varietyvista, or wexler. Eye looks more like S or D varieties, or even surrounding years. Could this just be an earlier die state? Able to see die clash in the usual obverse locations - front and back of neck.
Hi Imho, it looks really close to the 1948-ddo variety. Did you cross check with.. http://www.varietyvista.com/01a LC Doubled Dies Vol 1/1948PDDO001.htm
Coppercoins #2 . http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1948&die_id=1948p1do002&die_state=mds
So on this one the eyelid doesn’t seem to match. Varietyvista coin: My coin: And on this one the eyelid looks like a better match but none of the die markers appear to be there.
Yes you are correct the link I sent you the eyelid doesn’t match up completely but close. Imho,The “Lib” in liberty does closely match up.Yet.. In the link that Rick sent does match on the eyelid yet not some of the other markers. Except on the T like you pointed out. If you look very closely you can see that scratch line. Yours has some circulation wear so it was a bit difficult to narrow down. imho, I believe it is a 1948P-1D0-002.
Okay, will see what they say. Usually when I find a variety I can find something that matches. How long do coneca and wexler take to attribute and how much? Curious why varietyvista wasn’t recommended? This one came from a lot of uncirculated wheats. Unfortunately, took a little more abuse. About 1/4 are toned from minor rainbow to full color. Improper storage? Found 2 matching DDR ‘44s, a few RPMs, nice 30’s and this from only 3 rolls so far.
