Went to the coin store today and met a guy named Rob. He introduced himself as I was looking at some capped bust halfs. He mentioned how he is planning a complete set of early halves(all overton numbers). He told me he visits the store every other day. As we were chatting I ask him if saw all the early dollars they had a couple of weeks ago? It turns out he bought most of them - so his coin budget is much larger than mine. We talked a while longer and mentioned I was thinking about trading in some of my AGE's. He said do it now - he recommended buying some of the early date gold coins, even if they are common dates with mintages of around 60K. So what would you trade 20 proof quarter oz. AGE's for? Most of what I collect I can afford in a grade I am happy with - large cents, IHC's, CBH, DBH's, shield nickels. Well with the exception of maybe the 1799 and 1793. They have some common date St Gaudens MS63's(NGC Graded) that Rob recommended and I know I like, but what would you get? Just thinking about idea's and have not decided just yet.
Hmmm, depends on what I'd get for them. I might try to purchase 20 acres of land adjacent to my place which has more water; Rapid Creek runs thru it for maybe 1/4 of a mile. Yep, that's what I'd do... Ben
I'd try to get a $20 double eagle type set with: Twenty D no motto Liberty Head Twenty D with motto Liberty Head Twenty Dollar Liberty Head Roman numeral 1908 St Gaudens Regular St Gaudens
Two great idea's so far. But Ben - I think the commute is a little to far for me. Now time to start another thread with my new halves.
So no you did not misunderstand, it was what would you buy. I probably should have been more clear that I was looking for ideas for me. So if 5k(or so) will get 20 acres in your area I might think about it also - at least if I was you. So no mistake on your part - unless you thought they were 1 oz. coins.
