5 - 6 years ago, spotted a Proof US state .25 in the poker kitty; it was pretty dinged up. Last night, playing with mostly same guys, I HEARD this one tossed in by buddy's grandson, who's a cashier at McDonalds, and had just gotten off. I almost got whiplash when it 'rang'. I didn't have my glasses on; I DID have my beer goggles on, and thought I had found a $25 - $30 Washington... 'beak jam' is the plastic
I got one that looks that nice in a Coin Star reject about a year ago. The following week I found a 1963 beauty in the same machine. Since then, nothing, not even a greasy penny.
You didn't say whether you told the kid that it was worth more than face value or not. If you didn't, and these "poker guys" are your friends, I would hate to be your enemy. Chris
They say that a card laid is a card played, I guess that goes for the ante, too. If this were a friendly game, though, I would do as you suggest, and offer to buy the coin for far more than face if the coin were as nice as this one. If it were otherwise, it's just a quarter, IMHO.
Regardless of condition, it would still be worth about $2.70 in melt value. The least he could have done was to let the "grandson of a buddy" know that it was silver. I've had my share of "two-faced friends" where money was involved, and I hate to hear stories like this. Chris
We all have to start somewhere. He's a cashier at a Mickey D's! I'm sure he'll come across plenty of other silver coins. Chris
