What's going on under "New York"?

    What's going on under "New York" here?

    At first I thought PMD... then I thought that the reeded edges of another coin smacked it (REALLY hard)...

    But the more I thought about it... was this caused by the coin press (is that the correct term?) being a little over-zealous and the "ridges" getting "pushed up" into the design on the reverse?

    Please correct my terminology if it's wrong. Thanks.

    Yes, at some point, the working die clashed with the collar die.
