Nice, but I doubt the same will happen to the eBay sellers. The EU, where most ancient counterfeits come from, hasn't how much of any desire to crack down on counterfeits coins. Sadly in our hobby for every faker prosecuted, there are four dozen that go unpunished.

The indictment cites three victims by initials and lists five counterfeit U.S. coins sold by Skog as separate counts in violation of Section 485 of Title 18 of the U.S. Code. The coins include:

    • A counterfeit 1844 Seated Liberty dollar
    • A counterfeit 1853 Seated Liberty dollar
    • A counterfeit 1873 Seated Liberty half dollar
    • A counterfeit 1885 Seated Liberty half dollar
    • A counterfeit 1875 Seated Liberty silver 20-cent piece

It appears that he used slabbing and false claims of professional grading to give the illusion of safe purchase:

“Collectors Universe won a default judgment against Skog in April 2011 in which a federal court issued an order permanently enjoining Skog from manufacturing and importing counterfeit Professional Coin Grading Service holders. The order also enjoined him from selling any coin, real or counterfeit, in counterfeit PCGS holders. Collectors Universe is the parent firm of the PCGS.”

An unconscionable violation of trust! He can reflect on his despicable crime in his luxury apartment. Thank you for posting this @Ocatarinetabellatchitchix .

I'm not a vindictive person by nature—except when it comes to counterfeiters and those who prey on women, children, and the elderly. When called for jury duty—I'm often one of the first jurors rejected by criminal defense attorneys.

Man, they do not fool around in the US, here in Canada, a murderer does not even get 15 years in the slammer. Seems that the Chinese are always involved in nefarious activities.

The valor of the First Minnesota Volunteer Infantry at Gettysburg will never be forgotten by students of the American Civil War. The regiment suffered over 80% casualties and continued to attack. They were definitely among the unsung heroes of the battle.

    Ouch!
I just purchased a roll with a 1842 Seated Liberty Dollar on the end. I checked the weight and magnetic properties and I think mine is a genuine 1842 Seated Liberty, but it still sets me back when I see stuff like this.

    I am making a 7070
I am trying to make a type set of counterfeit coins. Many have been purchased for a quarter. None have involved a premium or shipping charges. Eventually it will cost me money to fill holes.
